Extended warranty on new RV - Yes or No ??
Hi,
We just purchased a new Vegas and should take delivery in 3 weeks.
My big question is to take an ext. war. 7 years 75,000 Mi. on top of basic that comes with a new unit.
The total cost is approx. $3,500 or approx. 4% of the total value.
We will put around 7,000 Mi or more per year.
I am open to your toughts and experience.
Thanks in advance
Michel

I am having the same thoughts. My warranty runs out in a little over a month. Which company are you looking into?

What we did was get a quote for an extended warranty from Good Sam. The dealer, a Camping World wanted $3500 for an extended warranty. The quote from Good Sam was $1800.00 so they matched the price for the same warranty. There is a huge mark up on extended warranties so shop around and don't be afraid to challenge a price.

The one that the dealer offers is Corner Stone United, my quote is in Canadian currency.
To my understanding I must take it within 30 days of purchase date.
I've checked a few compagnies here, and they say I must go threw a dealer.

Purchased an extended warranty on my last and current coaches through 2 different firms.
The first was Easy Care. I filed 2 claims and both were paid without incident. Both for the door locks on the refrigerator. We I traded the coach in on the current rig I received a refund on 3/4 of the purchase price for the warranty. That warranty did include roadside assistance or road hazard on tires but to as lesser amount than the current plan. It did not include trip interruption.
The current warranty is with USA Travel Care. It covers all to include roadside assistance (unlimited towing), trip interruption, rental car and food spoilage. It also includes all electronic equipment installed in the coach. One thing about this warranty package is that it will cover add ons or mods if the add on or mod is performed by an authorized dealer (e.g. installation of satellite dish). This cost of this plan was 5 percent but if I wanted to eliminate or reduce some coverage such as 100.00 or 300.00 towing instead of unlimited I could have reduced the cost.
Things to look for are:
"convenience package" coverage which will cover motorized steps, leveling jacks, rearview and side view cameras, and most importantly slide out components such as motors, tracks, gears and wiring harness.
Audio/Video coverage
How do you file a claim and the dealer network
Bottom line is do the research.

In the United States, you can purchase through Good Sam Extended Service Provider and not through the dealer. I am not sure if it is the same in Canada but their number is 888-787-7683. It might be worth a call.

Also having "consequential damage". And gaskets and seals coverage I have been told are things to get.

All good advise - here is some more:
1. Call Wholesale Warranties. We didn't buy on the coach but on our tires. These folks have a great track record and are at most 2/3 the cost of Good Sam (we deal with Good Sam on lots of things but not on warranties.).
2. Not sure how much Wholesale Warranty cost would be but if it is similar to our quote, somewhere in the $2500 neighborhood. Take $2500 and stick it in a separate account and use it as a just in case. Understand that your chassis is probably covered for 36,000 miles or 36 months. So for the first 3 years you are paying for the stuff that will break in you coach not the chassis.
If you are still nervous, after 30 months take what is left over and buy your extended warranty. History tells us (IMO) that most stuff is gonna need fixing in the first year/10000 miles.
I can attest to this in our experience.
Just our input.

i've never been an extended warranty person. There's a reason they try to sell them.... to get more of your money.
The way I figure it, most little things that are going to fail will do so during the factory warranty period...... and if you're at all handy you can do a lot of fixing for $2.5k or $3k
There's always a gamble of course, of something big like an engine problem or something, so maybe a warranty is worth it for piece of mind.....

I purchased an extended warranty on my old used 2003 Forest River Sunseeker for a little over 5 grand - over the three years it was good, never used it once.
I never got the extended warranty on the 2015 Hurricane. Original 1 year Warranty will expire this October and I will take my chances and see if the cost of repairs will be over $5000.00 for the next three years - I am not a betting man and never gamble - but I bet it will not be!!!!
blw2 - I so agree - pure PROFIT! Have you ever looked at the restrictions in the fine print - nothing expensive is covered!
