4WD: You Asked For It!

Press Release
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Thor Motor Coach Fuels Outdoor Adventurers with 4WD Super C Motorhomes

ELKHART, IND. –Thor Motor Coach® is introducing its 2020 Super C motorhome line up this summer with four unique floor plans, two which offer 4WD. The Omni® and Magnitude® Class C RVs are built on the Ford® F-550 chassis powered by a PowerStroke® 6.7 L diesel engine providing 750-lb.ft. of torque, enabling 10,000 pounds of towing capacity.

Designed with the largest overhead bunk in the market, these motorhomes feature a panoramic skylight with accompanying power shade. Countless high-end features include a standard king-size bed, high-gloss solid wood cabinetry, residential stainless steel refrigerator, glass shower door, and bedroom USB charging station with CPAP outlet. A long list of automotive features which include a 7-inch rear view monitor, aluminum wheels and Mobileye® collision avoidance system are standard. Power management is controlled by the FireFly® multiplex wiring system and the Onan® 6,000-watt generator has plenty of power to run the dual roof air conditioners.

Four floor plans are offered to fit any lifestyle:
XG32 with theater seating and measures under 34 feet, great for national parks.
SV34 highlights a king-size Tilt-A-View® inclining bed as well an exterior kitchen
BB35 includes a king-size bed, the popular family-friendly bunk beds with two TVs and DVD player, a flip-up kitchen counter extension for more usable kitchen space, and an exterior kitchen.
BH35 features a king-size bed, a bath and a half, and a pull-out pantry.

The SV34 and XG32 with 4WD are aimed at outdoor enthusiasts. “Our product development and engineering team worked diligently to implement four-wheel drive,” said Chris Carter, Product Manager at Thor Motor Coach. “We’re excited to bring light off-road capabilities to our fans who want to launch a boat, have more traction on sandy beaches, or more security during winter driving. Four-wheel drive truly expands the locations and time of year people are traveling.”

Standard this year on Super C RVs is the Winegard® ConnecT™ 2.0 4G LTE Router and WiFi Extender and over-the-air TV/FM antenna. Consumers will appreciate the fully integrated system that works together for maximum security, faster internet speeds, and increased range from any WiFi source or AT&T’s reliable nationwide 4G LTE network (subscription required).

Consumers can also take advantage of all of the resources that make RV ownership a breeze. Thor Motor Coach has developed a web-based portal, the Owners Resource. This portal gives owners access to important information on their motorhome, including factory-installed components and equipment, owner’s manuals, and more. Along with the Owners Resource, the new Thor Motor Coach app helps with everything from tracking RV service and maintenance to trip planning.

That's nice

It's been available for about 60 years to any who really wanted it.
Full warranty that matches the factory FORD warranty is included because of Ford authorized installers.

Those who really want it, have it.
The attached pictures are to show probably anyone with a Thor can have a transfer case and drive system installed.

Thor will capture a few due to financing packages and loaded up vehicles.
Most of us know:
Advanced 4wd
Sportmobile
And the three or four others that have been doing this for 30 years plus.

It nice... It's 35 years late.
(the autoselect, if available, will be nice for those who don't want to manually select 6wd.)

Any class c will probably be 6wd, not 4wd.

Marketing isn't making much of an effort.

Nope, 4WD. 6WD requires 3 axles:

Quote:
ix-wheel drive (6WD or 6×6) is an all-wheel drive drivetrain configuration of three axles with at least two wheels on each axle capable of being driven simultaneously by the vehicle's engine.
Dualies act as a single wheel.

Reply as you like to make any case you like.
I didn't post that for the semantical argument.
I posted it so those people with a want, who already own a MotorHome or don't want that particular floorplan, can be served, and those who believe this to be groundbreaking innovation, can be educated.

I think that Thor is tackling another "niche market"... Good for them!
Thanks for posting this.

I believe Thor is trying to keep pace with the competition (Forest River). There is another Super C out there, the Dynamax ISATA 5, that has a floorplan or two that are on an optional Ram 5500 4 x 4 diesel chassis.

Isata 5 | Dynamax - Manufacturer of Luxury Class C & Super C Motorhomes

You can modify anything to replicate an original design. Hats off to Thor for responding to what buyers ask for. I never thought in a million years the Super C could get any better. Now 4X4 will expand the possibilities. Tons play in the hard packed desert with RV's, as well as the tons that play on the beaches and dunes. This is an answer to the biggest challenge they face.

But who will be the first to take a "Super-Duper-C" onto the Sledgehammer and Jackhammer trails?

It will be a big hit here...Pismo Beach. Biggest gathering of...well...we'll be nice...people getting huge RV's stuck in the sand than anywhere else in the world...and they just keep doing it. It must be kids with Daddy's motorhome. Who else would joyride in the salt water and soft sand. Notice in the video...the truck is pulling in one direction and the nice guy in the motorhome is pulling the other direction.

that happened to me last year at Pismo, however, not quite that exciting

two things to remember on the sand...
1) lower your tire pressure to 20# on all 6 tires
2) keep moving, don't stop

but it is tricky searching for the hard sand
and the cost for the local towing company to pull you out is $450
(I had a friendly pull us out, we tipped them $100)

actually, when you enter the beach park the Ranger says "you will probably get stuck, so here's the business card to the local towing company"

About Pismo Beach...

Do you think that folks are getting suck because of all the tunneling that the "Wascally Wabbit" had been doing?

Old thread I know. But we recently discovered Axis and Vegas, fell in love with the current 24.1 floor plan which Thor says will be on an E450 chassis. Contacted Quigley, poor boy keeps insisting it’s built on a Ford F-53 chassis. WeldTec will make it “driveable” for a mere $9,000. But if Quigley will do a Class C on an E450 chassis for $15,000, I’ll go with 4x4 thanks (it’s a big truck, it will never drive like a BMW.

So how is yours holding up, and how much did the conversion cost?
