2019 Thor Siesta
Hello all,
Love the forum here found it the other day when I was researching Thor. I have a couple questions for everyone here.
We have found a 2019 Siesta at our local dealer. It is a new leftover. The condition is is anything but new. I do not know if this indicative of Thors build quality or just how the dealer takes care of things. I have attached some photos for you guys to look at. I feel the price is decent now, but I wonder if some of these issues are a bigger indication of what type of coach this is and I should just walk away.
1. Multiple doors outside not shutting. Large gaps between the hinges. Back door doesn't even shut. Side coach door has large gaps.
2. Bubbles on the floor by the bathroom and the twin beds in the rear. When I press down on it feels like something has settled or is popping through the floor.
3. Bathroom is a disaster. Curtain missing. A metal piece on the floor. Shower stall is pulling away from the wall and bubbling. Shower curtain setup ripped out of the wall, vent gasket is completely gone and appears to be leaking water. Bathroom doors are damaged where they were shut on eachother.
4. Chassis has 3400 miles which seems high. However the fridge and microwave all look new with the parts inside. each other. Driver and passenger doors have huge gouges in them.
5. Gaskets are all worn outside from sitting on the lot, front cap is faded and paint is worn, graphics are peeling off.
I could go on but my concern is I should just walk away and not even consider but the price is reasonable but these items are really concerning for something that is sitting on the lot. Has anyone encountered this before? The floor bubbling really bothers me.
Appreciate any and all advice .
Scott

Welcome aboard!
This sounds as if it's been a rental unit.

Hmm possibly. All the plastic is on the microwave and the fridge however and all the parts inside.

You could look at it this way: If this is how they clean and prep their rigs...
No wonder it's a leftover!
Good luck, and happy hunting!

That third photo is water intrusion. Obviously this coach has been neglected. Walk, jog or run away. You are most likely seeing only the obvious problems.

Thor is not known for its build quality and a lot of RV dealers don't prep new coaches until someone is buying it. Sounds typical to me. Maybe you could get them to knock another 10% off the price and take care of the stuff under warranty. If not look elsewheres.

I'd look for a lot more than that! Here's why:
You'll spend a lot of time and money flushing all of the demons out of this He'll-hole.
It'll take the better part of a year(at least)
You should be compensated for that loss of camping time.
These rigs depreciate like nothing I've ever seen. A two year old rig is down to about 60% of retail value.

Well, I’d sure want to see the certificate of origin or otherwise assure that it is new with full warranty. Second I’d look for a REALLY fine price. Bob is right - 60% off of retail - at least. (You can get close to 30% off a new current year unit and this one is two years old. You almost certainly can buy a used one with very few problems for that so really you should push even harder). Third, I’d take it for a long test drive to make sure it runs properly. Fourth I’d drive it directly to Thor in Indiana and I’d leave it there until EVERYTHING is fixed - full warranty, right? On second thought I think I’d probably walk away too. But good luck. I hope you find a happy path.

Thank you all so much for your replies. We were quoted 79990 and I said no way and offered 55k as is and was turned down. After hearing all your responses it may be good for me to just walk away. They did say it was under warranty.
For those who said water damage etc i think the bathroom vent was left open for an extended period of time because the shower curtain is thrown in the back on the floor and it is all brown on one side like water was coming over it. Also the surround is completely coming off the wall like something got behind it.
Is it possible the water damage got under the floor and bubbled It?
This dealer is known for not taking care of their stuff. In our browsing we found units with missing water tank covers, doors open , windows open, rusty wheels and trashed floors. Yet since rv sales are through the roof they are selling this stuff left and right.
And honestly I don't think I would even want this unit for 50k.

I think that you're making the correct and safe choice.
There's lots of dealers and RVs out there. You'll find the right rig for sure.
In the meantime: this one has shown you what to look out for!

I have to agree to walk away. Too many bad things to be fixed. You may not even know what else is wrong until it is too late. There are many more out there with little to no damage as this one has shown you.

The loose shower wall at the bottom looks normal to me (same as my 2015 Siesta). My understanding of this was that this is not tight/sealed so that any moisture that may get behind the wall doesn't get trapped. Am I wrong? Do other showers have the wall firmly attached and/or sealed all the way around at the bottom?

Hi ech1973 That is what was discussed some time ago. That is the idea that it would allow water vapor to escape. Water should sheet off running down the shower wall into the shower pan during use. In cold weather, water could form behind the shower wall and could accumulate behind the shower wall and have no where to go but pool up causing damage.

Walk away and forget about this unit, it will only cost you $$$ and headache trying to get some enjoyment out of it.

I'd run. Fast.
We bought a used 2018 about 3 months ago from a private owner. 21,000 miles. Everything in working order. No leaks. No damage.
Run faster.

If the Dealer is Camping World, run really fast and don’t look back

We bought our 2016 Thor Synergy in Jan. 2016. Yes, it had a lot of issues. most of which the dealer - Sonny's Camp-N-Travel in Concord, NC - took care of promptly and we have put almost 40k miles on it in that time. Be very selective, and very thorough, in your search because it's your money and your time that you are investing in something that will only depreciate in value.
Enjoy the journey and best wishes on your search.
