City water fresh water tank question

We have a 2012 Thor Ace and we have a fresh water fill and a city water connection. Our last trip, I noticed even with being hooked up to city water at good psi. We wouldn’t get any water in the motorhome.

So I was told to fill the fresh water tank, so we did and with the water pump on, everything worked fine.

So I’m not sure what the city water would be used for, if the only way to get water, is through the fresh water tank.

Am I doing something wrong?

Sounds like a valve closed somewhere. Probably near your water pump or water heater. Did you have hot water?

I can’t remember now, since there was no water pressure. I did have hot water when using the water pump. I will have to try to connect it to water at home and give it another try, before our next trip this weekend.

I would check a couple things. If you have a pressure regulator on your fresh water hose take it off and see what happens. I know I had one go bad and it stopped the flow of water. Also check the filter screens on the hose connection at the unit. I have had to replace those as they get clogged thus stopping water flow.

2012 model. Is this new to you or has this issue just started happening? Dumb question, but did you make sure you were connected to the "city water" input and not the other one? Sometimes the labeling of these inputs can be confusing. Is there a threaded hose connection fresh water fill input or is it a gravity feed for the fresh water with only one hose connection for city? If it's a "new to you" camper, check to make sure something hasn't been bypassed due to a previous leak or something. If you recently purchased, can you go by the dealer and have them do a "quick look" for you?

Where you connect city water there is a check valve to prevent water from coming out of that connection when the pump is running. They sometimes go bad.

You have to switch usually two valves to go from city to the tank or vice versa
