I bought a curt spare tire carrier that uses my trailer hitch to hold the tire. I had to relocate my rear license plate so I bought an led license plate bracket and wiring harness from etrailer and plugged it into my existing trailer plug. I zip tied the license plate to my rear ladder leaving room for me to climb the ladder and not hit the license plate with my foot. I used grade 8 bolts to secure the spare tire onto the hitch mount. I bought my spare tire rim from a company in Oklahoma (Sprinter knock offs) and they shipped it to me for a total (including the cost of the rim and shipping) for $47.00 to California. A great deal. Later I had to buy another rim to replace a bad one on the mh so I bought it again from the company in Oklahoma for the same price of $47.00. I bought a matching tire locally and had a tire shop mount and balance it. I am of the thought that I would rather have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. I have used the spare once.

over 100,000 miles and never a need for any spare tire... many cars even now don't come with a spare since the real risk of needing one is so small.

We carry a spare tire on the back of our 2019 Windsport 29m. We have Good Sam coverage. Yes someone will come out to change the tire. But you have to have the spare tire on a rim.
We purchased the rack from Camping World. The tire and rim from a local tire dealer. The piece to hold the license plate and tire cover from Amazon. Click image for larger version

i was just about to buy a new class c when i saw that there was no spare tire on the new motor home i was interested in,, i told the sales person i am not buying this motor home with out a spare and asked if they would buy a new car with out one? , and that i am not going to set on the side of the interstate waiting for good Sams to show up just to tell me they have to order a wheel or something of that nature, they said most people don't change their tires anymore and i said i am not like everyone else, i like being prepared as much as i can, i know things can go wrong, but even a little old woman would have a spare she could not repair her self, then they said OK are you still interested? i said with a smile yes , i know most class a motor homes don't carry them because of size, but a class c and e rated tires is just another automobile to me, i still may need help but i got a spare with me

Welcome to the Forum!!

Actually many cars come without spares.

Many members add them Many do not. I did not and did never have an issue in 20 plus yrs.
I do carry a plug kit and a small air compressor. Good Luck !

I bought the biggest fanciest plug kit I could find along with emergency valve stems(they install from outside the wheel/tire), and carry an 18v compressor and a 110v one(the 110v came with the rv, the 18v is my ryobi I had before the MotorHome). In the offroaders I carry the ryobi, on board air and a 120cf Scuba tank with a regulator conversion to 120psi.

Emergency Valve stems

I STILL carry a spare.

I havent had a flat on a highway vehicle in 40 years.
Parked, trailers, atv, golf carts, wheelbaeoows, bicycle=daily occurance.

None is none, one is none, two is possibly one, three is probably one.
Buy a spare or at least a plug kit.
Your reliance on others is....

I am the same, I have started back round 1981 traveling and to this day ( knock on wood ) I never needed a spare, but I have had to help out a buddy or two a few times with my spare, to me it’s a little more peace of mind to have one, I believe my dad drilling it in my head had more to do with it then anything, I believe back in day tires were not as good as they are now

I thought about this when we went to ALASKA back in 2017, 13,000 miles round trip...

took a plug kit, and that's about it - never an issue, though one can worry about it more than the reality of it.

Today we have 'better' tires, and there is a more prevalent number of options for 'emergency roadside service', and even more tire centers and mechanics along the way, even sometimes in what looks like the 'wilds' of the Yukon, British Columbia, and interior Alaska...

Many things are possible, almost ALL really, which is what we tend to 'worry' on... but MOST are simply PROBABLE, which is not NEARLY a reality ... there could be 'worst' things than being broke-down due to a tire issue, while in an RV... where you have food, water, and the basic needs, even a restroom : )

Duckface, Thank you! for the link on emergency valve stems. I can honestly say one thing, I've Never heard of them and will be picking up a pair. Everyone should carry a plug kit. $10.00 even if never used one. Someone helping you will. One plug 15 min back on road!! Wife had sidewall puncture to get us back on the road I used 8 plugs and it stayed inflated for months.

I bought a spare tire carrier that uses the trailer hitch to hold the tire and rim. Got it from Etrailer. Bought a rim from a shop in Oklahoma and a tire from the internet and had Pep Boys mount/balance the tire/rim.

I believe, almost wholeheartedly, that the words written are emphasised by the spaces between them.

If you go to my signature link and look on the last page, you'll see a post:
Six vehicles, six winches. Read what I do with them.

I carry this stuff primarily, but certainly not exclusively, for me. I know the limited chance of getting a flat and needing a winch and such 'fears'.
I don't post things like the emergency valve stem just to hear my head rattle as I type.

I carry these tools for US. ALL of US.
I have the tools required to answer my obligation to society.
I will answer that obligation. I'll have YOUR tire situation handled, in just as timely a manner as if it were my own, when you need it and you have no other recourse.

We do not exclusively 'boldly go' where teaming masses have tread.
We're a little more off the beaten path. And when I encounter you there, I'll have the plug kit and sundries, and they'll be yours.

You say 'fear' I say 'selfishness' in response.

Be known.

As the Rev said above:
Even if you don't/won't, someone who does/can, will.

In a pinch I'm thinking I will slow down and run on one of the duals if its a rear flat. If its a front tire. Switch it to the rear and put a good one on front.

I will carry more than 1. But then again, I am a US Army veteran, 100% disabled, and see things differently than the citizenry overall.

If your trying to protect yourself and those you love, like, or don't despise generally- grab some piece of mind and store it somewhere on your "freedom bus."

How copy?

Glad to see some new motorhomes have a spare option located inside cargo area between frame rails.

More manufacturers should offer this option, and if buyer doesn’t want a spare, the space can serve for added storage.

2019 Vegas 25.5

Was troubled not having a spare but not willing to drop $1000+ on it. Took some time, but pieced it together...

Roadmaster Spare Tire Carrier
(Craigslist - $300)
Ford OEM Dually Wheel
(Ebay - $90)
Tire
(Discount Tire - $140)
Tire Cover
(Amazon - $15ish)

Sure roadside service is good but I prefer having my own stuff available now.
