Dust Free & Functional Freightliner Exhaust - Mike Mas

Hello Guys - As much work as it takes to detail and clean our RV’s, especially with the M2 cab on truck conversions, we certainly want to keep her clean as long as possible. Regretfully, the Freightliner “Claw” exhaust tail pipe design is not in best interest in keeping our coach clean since it aims the majority of the exhaust straight on the ground blowing up accumulated road grime and dust. This is why the drivers side wall has considerable more road dust than curb side.

On a safety note, if your engines DPF is performing a “Parked Regen” the exhaust can reach over 1000 degrees making it a fire hazard. This can easily create a fire under the coach since its pointed directly on the ground where tall grass or leafs may be present possibly igniting them as the DPF burns raw diesel in the filter.

While visiting an off the road campground on my way home from Florida, I was just idling down their gravel road when suddenly a cloud of lime dust covered the entire coach. As I glanced in my mirror as I rolled up my very slow M2 windows, I witnessed “ M2 Claw Tailpipe” exhaust pounding the ground kicking up fine silt & dust. Larger diesels such as 9-15 L engines exhaust in patterns as the cylinders hit, making this problem even worse.

When I returned home, I removed the exhaust tip and threw it in the back of my Jeep to find a solution. While I won’t bore you with all the places I went, I finally found a serious looking tail pipe extension that fit perfectly at Auto Zone which looks as if it were made for my Beefy M2.

The RPB Extension is actually made to expand to smaller tailpipes, so it comes with three reducer clamps so it can grab the smaller pipes. On your M2, you’ll remove and discard these clamps since the tail piece is the perfect size to snugly fit over the M2 exhaust pipe. You’ll need to purchase a standard 4” muffler clamp to mount it. Mount the clamp bolts upwards so they are not visual. As shown in the images, the $39 stainless RPB extension provides a great looking high-tech looking exhaust for your coach which is functional, totally dust free, and looks great!

Enjoy - Mike Mas
