engine air filter

I have a 2018 Vegas and am curios if anyone has tried to change the engine air filter and how it can be done.

If my memory serves me correctly this is the one where the engine has to be partially removed to get to it. Not totally positive though.

I just changed the air-filter in our 2017 Vegas.
It came apart easy.
Difficult to get the two filter housing halves back together until I put a little air filter element sealant/grease on the adjoining surfaces. It then slipped back together easily!
Not sure what the grease really is. I had it left over from a K&N filter maintenance kit!
Wasn’t that bad of a job really!

I replaced mine last year. Once you figure out how it works its not so bad. Its in the front of the RV (under the hood). Just take your time.

This is one of the easiest DIY jobs on your rig. Most of what I have learned about RVs I learned by stumbling around. You can do this!

engine air filter

Thanks for the replies.
On the 2018 Vegas the hood goes up instead of down and it doesn't go up very far and I have to duck down and go under it . There is just barely enough room for my head and shoulders to fit between the front end and the hood, and I cannot stand up straight. It is difficult just to check the oil. It looks like I will have to remove the hood to work on it comfortably.

This old forums link regarding V10 air filter access may not apply to the coaches mentioned here, but if Ford V10s in class A’s are similar there may be some value. If not, then it may help others who are doing Spring tune ups on their ACE’s etc.

Years ago, I was contemplating building up the 3.6L in an 87 Buick. Under the Chilton's engine rebuilding section...the first direction was..."Remove Engine"...nothing else, just remove engine. I threw the book away and drove it 5 more years before selling it.

OR it will tell you to remove something like a ball joint or rear main but not tell you about the special tool you need or how to use it correctly. Drove me crazy.

At least now in days you can go to youtube and look up about anything you wnat to fix and see 10 videos on how to do something.

Or you can go to a forum like this and see writeups with pictures and then comments on other problems they ran into so you know what to expect.

K&N Air Filter for Thor Windsport 34J 2018

Hello, Has even one replaced the OEM Air Filter with a K&N Air Filter? I am trying to identify the correct filter to purchase.

You can call K&N directly and they could tell you which one is correct.

I did remove the "hood” on my ‘18 Axis WNE (Worst Name Ever). I got the idea from a former member but I haven’t done a write up yet. Basically, I removed the hood lift contraption altogether from the hood and front cap. I used 2 pins from the bottom of the hood (1/4x20 bolts with lock nuts) to drop into matching holes at lip in the bottom of the opening. The holes are reinforced by small sheet metal plates epoxied in place. Think of the racing hood pins but reversed. I kept the same latch bolts and now just lift off the hood and set it aside. Kind of a Fred and Barney design but it’s solid.
