Extend-A-Stay questions

I have an Extend-A-Stay installed on my Axis and the 20lb portable tank needs to be refilled. When I disconnect the hose from the propane tank I can hear and smell propane coming out of the hose even thought the portable tank valve is shut off.
I thought it may be just a case of gas escaping from the lines, but when I lit the 3 burner stove it continues to burn after an extended time.
According to the Extend-a-Stay installation instructions the MH propane tank valve should be turned off which it is. At this time both tanks are off but there’s still gas coming through the hose. I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong.
Please help!

You will always have a bit of residual gas in the lines. You probably have emptied it completely and now have air in your gas lines.

Make sure valves are closed completely

The lines hold a decent amount of gas. Before I disconnect the 20lb tank I close the valve and then run. The stove top until it get all the gas out. After that is when I disconnect the tank.
