Fresh water tank capacity

I have 2019 Thor Hurricane34j the fresh water capacity states 50 "gallons." Why am I getting onliy 46 gallons when I fill it? The tank was bone dry when I filled it.

Tank manufactures use external dimensions of a specific tank to calculate the volume the rectangular prism in cubic inches. That volume is converted to gallons by dividing the volume in cuin by 231. In larger tanks that gallon volume is adjusted the the next highest volume divisible by 5. Your results may vary. .

Did you remember to carry the 2, and add the square root of a Sunny day?

The fresh water amount stated from rv specs includes the water heater capacity, ie 44 gallon tank + 6 gallon water heater = 50 gallons.

As TT said. But where did the other 2 gallons go?

But don't count the water in the toilet: that's part of the blackwater tank capacity

In addition to the water lines and pump there's also generally some air trapped at the top of the tank making it difficult to fill totally full.

Thank you TT that now makes sense. I feel better now.
It would be nice if the specifications stated that.

We keep one of these to fill the Berkey, dog dish and just in case we run low and need to fetch 5 or 10 gallons to pour in an emergency..

Saw many campers with extra jugs getting water from the park tap

Your specs do state that Thor may change the specs without notice or without consulting any owner. Read all the specs to include the fine print.

That is true but that is not the point I was getting at.
Thor never advised that in any of the specifications I have read. Just FRESH WATER so many gallons. That’s what my Hurricane34j states. Fresh water 50 gallons. And it lists the water heater separately at 6 gallons that would be a total of 56 gallons.

I'm curious to know how you determined that it only held exactly 46 gallons?

I purchased a P3 Save A Drop Water Flow Meter | Measure Gallon Usage From an Outdoor Garden Hose from Amazon. This way I know how much water I am using and when to empty my tanks

That is incorrect! You can count the water above the ball valve. It is still considered fresh water until you flush it down and it becomes black water at that time. The caveat to tis is that you keep the inside of your toilet bowl "tidy".

That is my scientific input on this subject.
