Using a tow tower hitch

We have a 2017 Thor Axis 24.1. Hitch rating is 8,000 lbs.
We would like to start towing a vehicle on trips.
The tow tower method looks nice.
Has anyone had experience using this device?
Would like to know the pro and con.
Also if you are using another method to tow, which way do you prefer?

The problem with using it on a gas coach is the tongue rating of the hitch . In your case, it probably 1,000 lbs. In other words you can pull 8,000 lbs but your can support only 1,000 lbs on the receiver. Pictured is a diesel pusher with a class 5 hitch 17,000 lb capacity and tongue weight of 2,500 lbs.. If you were to buy a new heaver hitch your frame and rear alxe provally are not stresses for this tongue weight.

Just say no.

Your hitch only has a 500# tongue weight rating.

Weigh your RV fully loaded for camping and you'll probably find you are at, if not over, the rear axle weight rating already.

Get a car that can be towed 4 wheels down. That is the best method of towing.

For you, anyway. I pull an aluminum car hauler with an XT5 and other items I can load and it works fine for me. I can back up a hundred miles if necessary. But...modifying up or down or extended it rearward beyond 4" from the face plate "lip" of the receiver can reduce it's capacity by 50%.

I have a 2016 Vegas 24.1 on e450 chassis. I tow an open trailer with drag car all over SE.

Biggest issue with 5200 to 5500 loaded trailer is keeping tongue weight at 500 lbs. My rear chain is marked for RV or SUV/pickup. The Vegas does not care about 500 lb tongue and handles great. The SUV/pickup spot inncreases tongue weight needed with lighter tow vehicle.

24.1 rear axle with trailer has never gotten past 8,900 on 13,800 loaded for 5 day race with extra water, sparss and supplies for a total of 19,000 combined.

I know people who never consider rear frame extensions added to chassis, along with some who had issues. Is worth it to do the research to understand limitations. If we need extra vehicle, would be light car on trailer or a 4 down/dolly.
