Getting a Thor product
I currently have a 2011 Itasca Reyo 12Q. I had some work done on it today and ended up making a deal on a new 2019 Thor Four Winds 24BL.
I took it on a 30 mile test-drive and was surprised how much quieter it is and how much more stable it drives then my Reyo (both are Sprinter based with identical drivetrains). I also looked it over pretty good and found a few things that will be addressed prior to me taking delivery (scheduled for the 15TH).
At first I had concerns about not being able to use the bed with the slide in but my wife can use the dinette and I climb my old a$$ into the bed above the front seats if needed. The big plus are the full body paint and the optional diesel generator.
It is also prewired for a solar panel. There are connectors on the roof and a control panel on the inside. I am assuming that all that is needed is the actual panel to make things work. My question is did anybody had this situation and added the solar panel. I would hate to drill holes in my new roof. Probably will talk to the dealer and see what they can do.
Glad to be here,
Hans

I've added solar to two coaches now that were prewired. I also didn't want to drill holes in the roof so I opted for (2) Renogy 160W flexible panels.
You can read here about how I installed them using corrugated plastic sheets, elevator bolts and EternaBond Tape.
https://www.thorforums.com/forums/f8...els-21660.html
To be honest with you, now that I have become a believer in EternaBond Tape, I don't think I would have as much dear about screwing in solar mounts into the roof for rigid panels. That being said, I still like the flexible panels because they are much lighter and easier to deal with on the roof. I also can get over 300W of power with only two panels as well.
Renogy just came out with a flexible 175W panel as well...

You might want to check as to whether or not you can plug in any controller; or just a particular one specified by Thor.
As an example; my Tiffin is prewired and had a panel where a controller can be plugged in...
...their controller! :

The RV actually comes with a controller, I just failed to look at it and get the specs for it. I might swing by there and take another look. From reading here Thor either used a 10 or 30 amp version which dictates the panel wattage (I hope it’s a 30 amp).
After some more reading it looks that drilling and screws is the way to go vs using adhesive on the TPO membrane. I am wondering if a stud finder will detect the aluminum cross beams which would be the ideal place for screws.

Congrats on the new purchase. There are many of us out here that are using the Mercedes Benz Sprinter Chassis units on the road. I am on my 2nd such unit. They handle great and get good fuel economy with plenty of power/torque. There are many modifications to the inside that you can do to make it fit your style. Many have been discussed here and I have done many to my coach.

If the dealership or service place that is authorized can install and it will NOT void your roof warrantee! Just had two put on and works like a champ!
I am digging the solar stuff, making power and storing. I bought a fold out panel that came with controller. Fun charging stuff on the picnic table!

I thought I was familiar with most Via and Reyo floorplans, but never heard of a 12Q. Was that a typo, or is it a rare floorplan?
For a Class A, I liked their size.

New Sprinter Owner
I took delivery Wednesday of a 2020 Siesta 24MB after owning a Vegas 24.1. Have only used it for a 100-mile shakedown cruise and found it to be quieter, smoother and easier to handle than the Vegas. Unfortunately, and I had the same problem with the Vegas, the coach manual is so general (it's for all Thor A & C motorhomes) as to be virtually no help at all. I did not have an opportunity to get a walkaround at the dealership (it was in Illinois and the coach was delivered to me in Montana), so I'm in need of some help. There are a couple of youtube videos available, but nothing that will show me where everything is located. Anyone have any suggestions?
When I owned the Vegas, there was a fellow owner who made his own owner's manual that was truly outstanding and a real lifesaver for me and many other Vegas owners. Anyone know of something similar for the Thor Sprinters in general and the Siesta 24MB in particular.
Thanks, Bob

This may help, at least a little. Go to Thormotorcoach.com then click on "owners", then "owner resources" register with you personal info and VIN. You will find pages of documents and how to videos for your particular rig.

I'm currently looking close at a 400 watt Renogy kit that comes with a 40 amp MPPT Controller.
I just need to find out if my Dealer can make it work with the Tiffin way of doing things.
By the way...
In 2 years the prices have dropped to where this system is cheaper than a 100 watt system from 2018.

Good catch, I meant to write 25Q. I don't know if I would consider them a Class A.
The only thing different from a Sprinter based RV is the front cab area wich is all fiberglass and it has NO airbags. Not sure if the lack of safety is offset by the huge windshield. Don't get me wrong, the Reyo/Via line is nice and the overall quality is good. Hope my new RV is similar.

Thank you for the tip.
I am used to a pretty good Winnebago owner website. The Thor site is even better with four pages of manual ready to be downloaded and great videos.....a pleasant surprise.

Looks like you have the same 10 amp controller that comes in the RV I am getting. What is the wattage of the two panels you installed?
Anyway, I decided to let the dealer install a 100 watt (dealer recommendation based on Thor guidance). That way my roof warranty stays intact. I also don't want any warranty problems should any electrical issue arise after a self installation.

I have two 100 watt panels on it now. around 6 amps a panel. Had service department install. I bought panels, mounts and wiring, they installed.
I have 4 Lead batteries for now.
Keeps all batteries charged while sitting, even engine battery.
It makes enough power to keep frig running and fans to circulate air.
Had plug put in to add more ground base panels also. I have fold out 200 watt panel set.
upgrading to a 40 amp or higher and 4 more panels next month. Still researching controllers.

Maybe all you Sprinter RV owners should take up a collection and buy one of the Sprinter rigs for forum hero Ed Felker!

Yes, it’s definitely a Class A. Small, but Class A nonetheless.
Winnebago Via and Reyo are no longer in production. They were based on a stripped Mercedes Sprinter chassis rather than a “Cutaway” van chassis, making them a Class A.
Years ago we looked at the 25T floorplan (twin rear beds similar to the Thor Axis/Vegas 24.1 that followed), but the storage compartment below the elevated beds was not large enough for our bikes, particularly a tandem. It lacked a true bike-size garage. It was a very nice compact Class A perhaps a little ahead of its time (based on recent downsizing trends).

Can you be a bit more specific about what has caused the dissatisfaction with your RV?

One thing after another
We have a 2020 Quantum diesel. We have numerous issues to the point of looking up requirements for lemon law. The unit was leaking in the front. We had video of water literally poring down in the driver area from above Took it in three times. They couldn’t duplicate the problem. We finally showed the video of it poring in and said keep it until its fixed. We went to get it after being worked on. Still leaked. Took it right back. They had to call Thor to authorize taking it completely apart to only find out that it was not built properly. Seals were not done correctly. Got it back but damage from water already done to floor. We are still waiting for Thor to replace. Next thing back brake lights and signals just stopped working Thor said it was Mercedes problem. Mercedes said it was Thor. Finally got that fixed. The dealers own service said Thor wants to rush product to the dealers and shortcuts on quality. My advice don’t buy and if you do don’t sign or take it until everything wrong is fixed
