New Cherokee toad

Looking at Cherokee and Grand Cherokee trailHawk: anybody that has either feedback on your experience with them appreciated. We have a couple dogs and grandkids so leaning to the bigger one. On the other hand the cherokee would be better on the bumpy dirt roads.

We have 10K+ towed miles on our 2016 Chreeke Limited ADII.
We always enjoy the Chreeke
Zero problems only 1 issue the 15 thru (I think) 18 Cherokees require a wiring harness be added, I did ours (dealers wanted 400+/- $ ) for $50.00

The issue is attaching Un attaching, LOTS of extra steps to setup/unsetup involving a fuse, added switch, starting, don't start, DONOT take for off brake, take foot off brake if you miss a step START over

Newer ones don't require all the BS

Edit: We also have 2 small dogs and 2 teenage grandkids, been taking 2 week trips for 6yrs

2019 Grand Cherokee Trailhawk.

No issues at all no fuses to pull. Transfer case in Neutral and away we go. Newer models (2019 up) do not need the death wobble harness.

thanks, I think we are getting it tomorrow. So just run a trickle to the battery from the MH. There a few steps with the new one to make sure the active brakes do not activate but it is straight forward in the Uconnect screen.

We tow a 2019 Cherokee Trailhawk. As EA37 said 2019 Cherokee and Grand Cherokee no death wobble harness is required.
We have towed the Cherokee for close to 10,000 miles no issues. We have the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain Tow Bar and Roadmaster Invisibrake supplemental braking system. Invisibrake charges the battery of the toad when you keep the parking lights on.

Thanks: the dealer said it need the RV harness (backordered) to make sure the electric motor for power steering with stays active does not drain the battery.

I think I can just have Road Master do it. Just run power from the RV to the battery and will charge while underway.

Technology makes it more complicated. If the Cherokee was not so small...

On my GC, Invisibrake charges the GC’s battery when the RV lights are on.

I had a dedicated charge line installed.

just left the dealer: they said the Grand Cherokee needs the 822164AA harness: $240 for the part $1500 to install. That ended our purchase section. Going to Roadmaster tomorrow to see what they can do.

2021- Trail Hawk. My guess Roadmaster will have a work around. The dealer runs all the wiring like factory so have to remove a lot of the interior panels. No issue with Cherokee.

spoke with etrailer folks. They said There is no work around for the MOPAR part 82216418AA for the GC. Only MOPAR part works. My dealer said $250 for the part and 6 hours.

Ok. I had noticed that the 2021 Grand Cherokee had additional procedures to towing than the 2019. My 2019 does not require pulling a fuse for towing.

Thanks for the feedback. We did bring a GCTrailhawk home today. Worked out something with the price at the dealer to soften the blow of adding the Rv harness. Really happy and will take it to road master factory for their install. Looking forward to pulling our Escalade only when we have the grandkids and dogs.

We have a 2019 grand Cherokee trailhawk and love it. We can adjust the ride height for the blue ox tow bar for our 2017 Tuscany 42gx. We had a wrangler jku Sahara before. The ride is awesome in the Trailhawk!

I found some thin 3 wire bulb holders and bored a hole to put them in the outside tail lights then ran a 4 wire harness underneath to the 4 prong plug connector in the he front bumper
