house battery wiring

Just replaced my grp27 deep cycle house batteries on my 2016 Thor AXIS 25.2 after 12 months of use. BUT, when I labeled the cables, I missed one. I have the positive from the 100amp disconnect, the negative to the frame, and the positive to positive / negative to negative connections between batteries hooked up, but there is one more lead.
Can anybody look at their axis and tell me whether the remaining cable is a positive or a negative?
Thanks for any help.

Chances are, it goes to Positive. I made a mistake in my labeling and the fix (id'ing wires) was to pull back the plastic cover on the wire. If the wire inside is a larger size RED, then it goes positive.

Is the one you have left coming from another circuit breaker? I have one and it is the cable to the inverter from the positive. You might check and see if the inverter will come on. If not you have your answer.

No inverter on an Axis or Vegas--at least stock.

Hello Beau

Can you tell me what the inverter in the 31S will operate w/o shore or generator power? I never had a coach with an inverter before and I have a 31S coming in.

Thanks

The inverter is powered from the house battery(s) through a 200 amp (30 amp coach) circuit breaker located in the battery compartment. If you have the generator running or shore power, there is a by-pass relay that bypasses the inverter and allows the generator or shore power to power all the duplex receptacles that would normally be powered by the inverter. This happens automatically even though the inverter is still on. Generally, the only time you need the inverter on is when you want to power a 120 volt appliance from the battery or engine alternator.

Won't help now after the fact, but for next similar project I've found taking lots of digital pictures before taking stuff apart may come in handy. A video can also be useful in cases like this. You can always delete them after the project is finished and everything is working right.

Hopefully someone with a 25.2 will take and post a picture for you.

You can also call or email Thor, they will be happy to email you a copy of the wiring diagrams, they are nice about doing that! Maybe with the diagram you can figure out where your extra wire goes.

When taking something apart it helps to take pictures for a reference.

Generally the inverter will power the residential refrigerator and television circuits only when you are not connected to shore power or have the generator running. There might be one or two other outlets connected to the inverter but that is not the case in my coach. The only time I use the inverter is when I am running down the road and I don't need the generator to run the AC units. I have a residential fridge so the inverter is required when there is no shore or generator power.

After you get the coach ask Thor for the wiring diagrams and they will tell you which circuits and appliances are on the inverter circuit.

Chance, superD,

Glad to see that 20-20 hindsight is alive and well on the Thor forum site.
Rather than to late to be helpful retroactive advice, is anybody sure about where that cable goes? Just a count of how many total connections to the positive and negative battery terminals would do the job.

Hindsight is always 20/20! Recommending contacting Thor to send wiring diagrams and providing advice for the future projects is not hindsight.

Counting cables is not always a good plan, one ground can serve for multiple connections.

Sorry -- point taken.

Please understand that a forum like this is visited and read by many owners, and some who haven't even purchased yet, so a comment like mine was meant to share a related generic idea to help others in the future, not to offend you. Having said that, I know it's a fine line.

I should be going by mine tonight, I can take a photo if you need it.

Craig,

I would really appreciate it. As I said, I just need to know where that last cable connects. Just a count of how many cables go to positive posts and how many to negative will meet the need. I REALLY don't want to cross connect that cable and short out something expensive.
Thanks. Bye the way, no response from Thor yet.

I ran out of time last night, I'll make a trip out tonight.

I'd really love to see pics of someone's battery disconnect installation I assumed they were post-style batteries and bought the wrong stuff. It looks like the switches for these batteries are meant to be remote installed?

Did you ever get any pics? I would like to make sure mine is correct too. Thanks
