how to sanitize fresh water tank

I picked up my 2015 Thor Windsport 34E. It's still winterized and as of last night, it appears the freezing temps are now over. I would like to sanitize and flush the fresh and hot water tanks, and plumbing. The system has a multiple position valve set-up. Anyone care to give a FNG a quick lesson?

OK, I'll give it a try, I lost my manual somewhere, but this is pretty much what it said.
1 drain the water tank.
2 make up a solution of ¼ cup household liquid bleach to one gallon of water for every 15 gallons of tank capacity, dilute in water prior to filling.
3 close all faucets and drains, fill the water tank with the rinse solution through the potable water fill
4 turn on the pump switch and circulate throughout the entire system
5 now fill the fresh water tank until it is full
6 close all faucets and drains and let the system sit for three hours and better yet drive around for a while.
7 drain the whole system using both tank drain and low point drains
8 now flush the complete system with fresh water until all the smell is gone
9 now fill the fresh water tank as you would normally do.

For the Anderson Kantleak with the multi position valve:

Once you mix the solution attach a siphon hose to the fresh water fill (city connection) and the other end in the bucket of solution then put the valve in the winterize/sanitize position and turn on the water pump. This will circulate the solution through the fresh water system. Crack each faucet until you smell the solution coming through and then close that faucet. Do this for each faucet and don't forget the outdoor shower.

Pour the remaining solution in the fresh water tank either through the fresh tank fill or using a hand pump with the multi position valve in the tank fill position. Fill the fresh water tank and let it sit for 3 to 4 hours. Drain and rinse.

A couple of notes.

While running the solution through the system the water pump will not turn off. This appears (operative word) to be normal for this system.

I keep the water heater by passed. The chlorine concentrate is high and I prefer not to run it through the water heater. I rinse that out through the drain using a small wand.

Here is the info on the Kantleak. The winterize/sanitize instructions are incorrect in that they say the system first sucks the solution into the fresh tank. It doesn't happen that way.

Good info. Thanks I'll get going on this as soon as I finish cleaning things up and removing those stupid advertising stickers on my rig. CW's idea of "detailing" and mine are worlds apart... I was wondering how to cycle the solution thru that particular intake system. Now I have a clue.

I do it some what different and I think it works. I fill tank about 1/2 full. Then I put 1/4 cup of bleach per 15 gal. of water, I have a 40 gal tank so I use a little under 3/4 cup of bleach, I pour the bleach in my water hose then flush it into the water tank. I then run all the faucets then let it sit for 2-3 hours then run all the water through the system then refill the tank. I learned the hose trick on this site and it makes it very easy.

On mine I bought a hand pump at CW that I use for both winterizing
and adding the bleach/water mix for cleaning out the system.

Just don't use too much bleach or you will be filling and draining your
water system a few times to get rid of the bleach smell/taste.

Don't ask how I found this out. :-)

Also leave the hot water tank by pass on when flushing and sanitizing. I did my rv last weekend and it was quick and easy.

Hello. I am new to this forum and first time owner of 2018 Thor 22FE Class C motorcoach with 40 gal fresh water tank. Question: During fresh water sanitization, does my 20+ gal grey water holding tank fill during the process requiring multiple dumpings of its content? Or is all draining of the water during sanitizing evacuate via the fresh water tank drain, hot water tank drain, and low point drains? Sorry for this newbie level question. Thanks for your assistance as members of this great forum.

Your fresh water tank should have a drain on the bottom of the tank.

Once you open that the contents of the fresh water tank will drain on
to the ground under the MH.

If you are trying to drain the fresh water tank using the water pump,
then yes you will be filling up the grey water tank.
