Hurricane 34J Door Hitting Awning Arms

Hi all. We have a 2014 Hurriane 34J, bought it last fall and love it. Just have a question. When the awning is extended the entry door swings out and strikes the awning arm pretty hard. I try to hold on to the door, but the kids and guests don't. It's only a matter of time before the paint is all chipped off. I've noticed that Thor did a design change on the awning placement on the 2015 models to fix the issue. My dealer " is looking into a fix" ie I'm on my own. I'm thinking just a simple rubber bumper on the awning arm. I want something that looks good/not that noticeable and permanent. Has anybody else had/fixed this issue? Thanks

Have you looked at the gas cylinder (strut) that should be mounted to the door. If that cylinder is weak it may be the cause of your issues. A stronger cylinder may prevent the door from slamming into the awning arms. There is however a downside to the stronger cylinder. It may cause the door to open slower, however, with that comes making the door a little harder to close.

Those gas struts function the same as the ones used on the lift gates and trunks of cars and SUVs. You may even be able to find one that is adjustable in opening and closing force. You might was to consider removing the strut and checking a couple of auto parts stores. They should be able to match up a replacement.

The door on our 2115 Hurricane will fly open if you don't hold it. The strut just holds the door open. Is the strut bad?

If your gas strut is adjusted properly it will prevent any contact with the awning.
