There was a Global Cooling display at the Smithsonian when I visited many years ago

Most of the current crop of liberals don't know it requires heat units to grow food outdoors or indoors

I’ll stand behind what I wrote below. Gasoline versions of Transit and F-150 are in same weight range. Just look it up on Ford specs. It is data, not opinion.

Now, if Ford takes a Transit and converts it to RWD-only electric with smaller battery, weight ends up between 5,600 and 6,200 pounds. Again, data from Ford, not opinion.

Logically, if they start out with an F-150 body and frame structure that has a similar weight to the Transit structure (and I know Transit is unibody), but add front motor and drive, and also double the size of battery, how can it not end up much heavier than an electric Transit? That’s all I stated. Guessing about ~ 7,000 pounds, particularly with larger battery.

If electric cars are being built to reduce emissions (and pollution in general), then it’s safe to assume lighter electric cars would reduce emissions/pollution even more. And some of the even-larger electric pickups are getting ridiculously large and heavy, which seems to defeat the original goal in the first place.
I was thinking about a plug in Wrangler but they weight in around 5,800. Our Escalade ESV weight is 6000. Going to pass on the coal power for a while.

One of our clients just bought a Tesla Model Y.
He is still intimidated by all of it's technology: but he is impressed as Hell, and happier than a pig in fresh mud.

On the EV front:
It seems that with LordsTown's C.E.O. & C.F.O. going A.W.O.L.: they are S.O.L. now.

Not really: Think of how much cash that now leaves them since they don't have to pay those two the millions of $$

I'm pretty sure they didn't leave with empty pockets...
I really liked their use of the technology. I've always felt that wheel hub motors were the most space-efficient. It left more room for the battery packs.

Yeah but they greatly increase unsprung weight which makes for a suspension nightmare.

A while ago Ford had a prototype Fiesta with in-wheel motors on the rear wheels. Never went anywhere, however.

The Rivian comes close but I don't think its four motors are in-wheel, however.

Electric motors are quite small for the power they deliver anyway (look at all the vehicles with a Frunk and yet they still have a front motor).

Unsprung weight will be an issue: but there are always solutions.
I hadn't seen that video: Thanks!

Electric motors are indeed generally very small for their power, in large part because they spin at vey high RPMs. If installed directly in vehicle wheel, engineers would have to deal not only with motor mass, but also the reduction transmission. Detailed specs on electric cars I’ve seen often have around 10:1 speed reduction between motor and wheel.

Conversely, a direct-drive in-wheel design would require a relatively low-RPM motor; so while it would save transmission mass and size, it would add significant motor size and mass, thereby offsetting gains.

On related side note, because most of these electric vehicles have fixed-speed-reduction transmissions, I find it amusing that manufacturers bother listing motor torque as if it really means anything useful. Glad to see some companies are pushing back on the marketing-driven absurdity.

Chance,
Did you see the Wingamm Oasi 540 thread? I thought of you as soon as I started reading about that RV.
