Leaking Fuel Leak Found in Time

Have had my Vegas at Hobbs RV over the winter and they were prepaing it so I could take it down to Atlantic Glass in Morehead City to get a new windshield put in (courtesy of Progressive) on Wednesday. Tech Mech was just finishing up getting it ready when I pulled up and both of us smelled gas.

We looked under the Vegas. Just forward of the generator (which was running) there was gas on the ground. I killed the engine and the Tech Mech took a closer look and found a pinhole leak in the steel gas line.

Needless to say I didn't take the RV to the glass shop last week. Hobbs Tech Mech said he was going to put a temporary patch on the gas line and take it over to Heavy Diesel to get a new section of gas line installed.

I'm very thankful we smelled the gas before I was to leave. Don't want to even think of the mayhem I could have caused going down US-70 from New Bern to Morehead City.

Had to replace the fuel line to the tune of $462.00 (includes labor). RV shop "investigated and found the gas lines on the frame rail were eroded, in our opinion, by ethanol."

Having RV laid up for over a year following heart repair probably contributed mightly.

Your motorhome was only 6 years old, those fuel lines are made for ethanol. I had a 69 Charger R/T and used ethanol over 10 years and never had a leak. I'm betting the line rubbed against something and and wore a hole it it. Did they show you the damage before they repaired it? The patch probably would have lasted forever. Did they give you the old lines?

I saw the removed gas line. The leak was on the side away from the frame it was routed on. Like the RV Tech said "opinion".
