Propane Filler Valve.

Anyone know where I can get a filler/OPD valve for the Armebe horizontal propane tank that is in my Axis 25.2?

If anyone has ever replaced one any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
SR

You probably have a Manchester ASME tank compatible tank and not a DOT bottle. ASME tanks do not require OPD valves/floats. Search for "Manchester Tank Fill Valve " on Amazon. Since the fill is the same I assume the tank threads are the same. Unless you tank is completely empty, do not try to replace it yourself, but take to a commercial propane fill station and let then do it. I had one replaced in Apache Junction, AZ . The cost was $65 for the bleed down, valve, installation, purge and 8 gallons of propane

It is a fixed horizontal tank. So you are saying I don't need one with the opd in it? I have seen the manchester ASME fill valves on several sites. Any idea why it would quit working? Thanks a lot.

No clue why it would quit. As for DOT bottles/cylinders, only the 4 to 40 lbs require an overfill preventive device. ASME tanks are specifically exempted from periodic inspections or pressure test when installed in recreational vehicles unless the propane is used to power the vehicle. New ASME tanks are sold with OPD as some states (New Hampshire) require that they be installed; however. there is no DOT regulation requiring an OPD in an ASME vapor tank. The Province of Ontario does require inspections (5 year) inspections of ASME tanks. <https://www.propanetankstore.com/dot-asme-tank-differences/>

Manchester Tanks have a small placard welded on the tank near the fill valve which describes the tank for purposes of registration (serial number manufacturing date and tank type) . Registration is not need useless the tank is used as a fuel tank for the vehicle. I am not familiar of where Armebe Tank might put the certification tag.

What failed regarding the valve? The tanks are made in Mexico but should have standard fittings

Not difficult at all to change, getting the tank completely empty is the time consumer

If you do it yourself be sure the pipe sealant is LP compatible

Unless you are filling the tank yourself, be sure to tell the Attendant that you have replaced the valve and need to do an air purge and leak check prior to filling

During hit weather the propane pressure increases in the tank

Not unusual to have a gasket/ seal stick not allowing propane to fill

Especially the propane pumps weak and doesn't have enough psig to overcome the spring tension and stuck gasket

A sharp tap in the center of the valve with a brass drift usually takes care of that

Use a face shield and wear gloves and beware if where the short burst of LP will travel

Thanks. I am taking it to the local propane dealer today and see if they can fix it.

The rubber gasket that goes in the filler valve was missing. That's all it was. Filled up fine after that.
Thanks for the help.
