mount spare on roof?
I have a 2015 Thor ACE 27.1. Heard horror stories about tire issues so I decided to get a spare... my friend/heavy RVer puts his on the roof.
1) If I mount spare on roof, how would u suggest I mount it?
2) What other simple, cheap methods of mounting spare would u recommend?
Ken

How would you get it on and off the roof?
Make a mount for the bumper.

I have an Axis which has a smaller tire, so I don't know if this will work for your ACE with 22.5" tires; but I store my 16" spare tire under the rear of the Axis in the space between the fuel tank and the rear bumper. I take an unmounted tire so it is light enough to get it in and out relatively easily. I certainly would ask Thor if the roof is strong enough to hold a tire and how to mount it. I also wonder how you plan to get it up there and down if you need it on the road?

So how do you get it up there. Mine is a struggle to get up and in the storage compartment. I can't imagine getting it on the roof.

Good point but I'm more concerned of getting it up there.

Off hitch receiver is relatively easy. I wouldn't want it on roof for many reasons, including not wanting to add extra weight that high. RVs already have handling issues because center of gravity is so high, so why make it worse.
Since your ACE is on the F53 chassis, I don't think a spare will fit directly up between the frame rails unless you can get the tire to engage into the "C" channel. I'd measure that closely before spending much money buying a spare to mount between frame rails.

Great comments. Thought about putting spare on hitch but will is use hitch for a tow dolly for car or tow trailer for my Spyder motorcycle but... when I think about it some more I can just put it into the towed car or on Spyder motorcycle trailer.
Again thanks for the comments,
Ken

Ken, if that's a major concern, you can consider using an adaptor to end up with dual receivers so you can use one for tire and other for dolly. They come in many different styles, dimensions, and capacity ratings. This picture is of one I had not seen before, but rating seems plenty for a dolly.
Your tire/wheel will weigh over 100 pounds so I'd probably prefer to leave on RV to keep from having to move it.

This type I've seen advertised more commonly, but not necessarily better. Matching height and clearances could take a little planning and searching.

Putting any size spare (except a 12-13" tire/wheel, which is still not light) on the roof you would be mucho strong hombre & if you're that guy you won't need the jack, just pick up the rv with one hand & put the spare on.
