No hot water in shower

I have a 2017 Thor Axis with a tankless hot water heater. I have hot water in both sinks ( kitchen and bath) but no hot water in the shower.
I can find no leaks anywhere and the water comes out but the Gerrard hot water tank will not come on to heat the water.
It has been working properly until now. Any ideas as to why this may be happening?
TIA

That sounds like either a kinked line...
or the screen in the shower head is clogged...

I have a new Miramar with the exact same issue, hot water in both sinks, no hot water in shower. Took it to the dealer, and they replaced the faucet in the shower. Turns out the faucet was mixing cold water in, when it should not have been. So when the shower faucet was on full hot, it was mixing in cold water, which dropped the hot water flow rate down below the needed flow rate to turn on the water heater.

Thanks
Mike

A few people have had this issue with the shower faucet allowing cold water to mix with the hot when it shouldn't.

My tankless hot water has worked great but I am going to replace the shower faucet with this one I ordered last month.

The showers being a little tight cause me to bump my elbow on the control occassionaly and it starts mixing cold water and then you know what happens next.

This one will allow me to only turn on the hot water and it will stay the perfect temp for as long as I want.

I can’t understand why this has suddenly become an issue. The shower worked perfectly 2 days ago, but now ...nada.
I can’t imagine that it’s due to a line being kinked as I have been parked in the same place for the better part of a month.
I will try to contact Thor to see if they can offer a solution.

1) turn off water at city water connection & pump
2) remove faucet in shower (take photos once off wall plate)
3) disconnect hot water line from back of faucet
4) now, turn on water pressure and allow water to flow out of the hot water line (you may need help so that it doesn't go everywhere & make a mess)
5) if you have hot water coming out of the hot water line, then it's the shower valve

issues and things happen when you least expect it.

you might even be able to find a clog inside the faucet where the hot water line enters the faucet

let us know what you find.

It is not a kinked line because it is PEX going into the shower faucet. However, the fixtures used are very cheaply made. When you have a single handle faucet, the cartride can leak so the hot or cold does not fully shut off in the furtherest postions. This can be either from loosening of the cartridge, a bad seal or debris in sealing area (common in these coaches with construction debris).

If any cold water leaks and mixes with the hote when using the tankless hot water, it will cause the temp to plummet.

One of the first upgrades I did when I purchased the Axis was to replace the existing shower head with an Oxygenics. Money well spent.
The flow out of the shower head is excellent. No problem with that. The hot water heater just never comes on. Makes no effort to heat the water.
As someone pointed out above it could be something causing it to mix with the cold even though I never use the cold water when using the tankless heater. I just control water temp with the temp settings.
Frustrating, but at least I have another option for showering until I can get this sorted.

Yeah I bought an oxegenetics shower head as well and thought that was the culprit so I switched back to stock but my shower would still not produce hot water. Turns out it was the valve in the shower faucet was not fully turning off the cold water flow when on full hot. This caused the fresh water flow rate into the water heater to drop and the water heater would not fire.

Swapped out the faucet and now everything is working fine.

By the way mine did the exact same thing. One weekend it worked great next weekend all of a sudden no hot water.

Why the even put these single handle faucets in these RVs with tankless is beyond me.

Could you swap out the single handle faucet: for one with separate controls?

My Axis doesn’t have a single handle faucet.

Then if you don't have a single handle faucet, it is less likely that cold water would be mixing with the hot. If the cold water cartridge was leaking, then your shower would be dripping.

I assume the shower is the furthest away from the Tankless unit. If the hot water works in some places and not others your problem likely comes down to one or a combination of the following:

Incoming Water Temp- In cooler / colder climates where the city water temp is relatively cold, the Tankless can have a harder time getting it hot enough before it leaves the heat exchanger. You can either try slowing down the flow (there is a white knob on the back of the tankless water heater that controls flow) or you can purchase a heated city water hose.

A few people have reported this type of problem over the past moth or two and it eventually turned out to be the cooler temps causing the incoming water to be realtively too cold and either slowing down the inlet flow or using a heated city water hose solved the problem.

Water Pressure / Flow - The Tankless is very sensitive to water flow. When there is not enough flow, it won't fire up. This is easy to see happen when you turn on the cold water and the hot water simultaneously and the flow through the unit becomes too low.

It is important to have at least 45 - 50psi of pressure coming in from the city water. If the pressure is lower than that, it can be difficult to get consistent hot water. If the city water pressure is weak (or you aren't using a regulator to know and control the pressure into the coach), then try your onboard fresh water to see if the problem improves.

Flow can also be restricted from construction debris in the pex that starts to build up in different places over time such as the strainer on the pump or the screens / water restrictors at the faucets. I had flow issues on my last coach and when I removed all of the screens, they all had debris in them partially blocking the flow. Small pieces of plastic, wood, etc. get into the PEX and they don't blow out the lines before assembling them. Eventually they work their way through the plumbing and cam block the screens. You might want to disassemble the hose and shower head to see if there is a screen that needs cleaned.

There is another hidden screen to check. If you have the Girard Tankless, the Thor Factory Service Center told me that Girard puts a screen into the fitting where the water flow control valve is located. The Thor Tech told me they have been removing this screen when units come in for service ans people report water temp issuues related to flow. This screen has been getting clogged with debris and restricting flow into the Tankless causing issues. I have attached a picture of the schematics from the Girard Service Manual showing the screen. The Thor tech said with the onboard water filter, there should be no need for this screen. While that is true, you can still have construction debris in the lines after the onboard filter.

Now there could be an issue with the flow sensor in the Tankless unit itself, but I think you would see issues at other faucets as well.

Judge is right on point with the water pressure, super sensitive. Make sure you have good pressure. Drop the temperature setting a few degrees and use less cold water if you have two knobs. As for the filter u tube has some excellent information on cleaning the filter screen. We like our system but it did time to learn and adjust. Good luck
