No inverter on Thor Axis

I understand that the Thor Axis does not come with an inverter. Since my wife and I do a lot of boondocking at national parks, etc. we would really like to be able to watch our TVs. I understand that you can have a third party inverter installed. Any input on this would be appreciated.

Would be so nice to have an inverter!

Considering a vented shell to install an inverter near the batteries under the chassis for short power leads and limit fan noise. The control panel should be easy enough to route & mount inside somewhere above the battery disconnect switch.

Our use doesn't really require a transfer switch if an inverter only plugin was added. For TV's though, I'd want the factory plugins powered. Still pondering transfer switch options.

Our oldest son has a Cpap and he is a avid camper hunter and fisherman. He got a 150 watt inverter and hooks it to a 12 volt battery when camping with no electric power. Works great for him. Battery is recharged while driving.

cpap

Have you checked with the med insurance company to see if they will cover the coast of a rechargeable battery pack for the cpap? This could be used as a temp solution until an inverter is installed and also a backup in the event of a power failure.

Modern TVs use little power compared to appliances like microwaves or coffee makers, but typically get used for much longer periods (for hours at a time versus a few minutes). The first thing I would do is define the limits of what you want to run (i.e. -- accomplish), and for how long between recharging cycles, because that affects required battery capacity.

I'd also decide whether a permanently-installed inverter is what I want or if a small portable inverter to run a TV will do. I've used a small 400-watt inverter to run a TV for many days during power outage at home, but would want an inverter/charger in a motorhome that can run a microwave or coffee maker (2,000 watt minimum).

We like visiting National Parks also and for our traveling needs a larger inverter and lots of battery capacity should be of greater value than a generator.

Your Very Welcome. It might be worth knowing that you can get a 12 volt car booster pack at harbor freight for $79 to $99 and a 150 watt inverter for $24 to $35 which will run a Cpap machine. The car booster has a Charger built in that will use 110 volts to charge the battery. Some of the combo units have a 150 to 300 watt Inverter built in. Check it out if your insurance company won't pay for a battery pack. Also you can get a inverter that plugs into a cigarette Lighter on you car or motor home. The Cpap doesn't draw that many watts. at least our oldest sons does not.
