Hurricane 2019 vs 2020

OK, yes, I know the 2019 should be available for a much lower price. But... I haven't been able to get to a dealer that has 2019 and 2020 models to see what specific difference(s) there is(are) between the two. Anyone out there know?

Thanks,
Harv

Looking at Class A. Really liked the Hurricane 29M. But, since we just started looking, will be looking at all makes/models. Likely stay in the 24' - 32' length. Like size of Thor Axis and Vegas, but not sure interior is big enough, and concerned about power since we expect to tow.

We actually have a trip planned for later this month to MHSRV to spend 2 days on site looking at all kinds of motorhomes, and talking with a salesman. It's a full day drive just to get there, but hope their inventory size and attitude make it worth our time/cost.

It’s worth the time. More MH in one place than I have ever seen

Plenty of other makes and models to compare; not just Thor products. You can just take a golf cart and look all day without a salesman if you wish.

The E450 V10 block in the Vegas/Axis is the same motor as the F53 V10 in the Hurricane. Just tuned differently in the cylinders. The horsepower difference is negligible.

However, the E450 Vegas/Axis is lighter than the F53 Hurricane.

So you will have better towing results and Mpg with the Vegas/Axis than with the Hurricane.

Not exactly. The E450 has the 2 Valve V10 while the F53 chassis has the 3 valve V10. The 3 Valve has about 30 more HP and increased towing capability.

Yes, the F 53 has 25 more horsepower but it weighs a lot more than the E450
So the F53 has less than 10% more horsepower.

If you like the 29M floor plan take a look also at the Winnebago Vista 29VE. My dealer had both and the side by side comparison was pretty interesting. There is a Fleetwood Flair model that is similar as well. Enjoy he search and take your time.

I really like the 29M and it's full wall slide
It's a great footprint, and a good size for full time living.
And as said above...both Thor & Winnebago offer that design

OK, Thor specs provide this info:
E-450 hp = 305
F-53 hp = 320
E-450 torque = 420 ft-lb
F-53 torque = 460 ft-lb
Vegas 24.1 GVWR = 14,500 lb
Hurricane 29M GVWR = 18,000
Simple math:
Vegas 24.1 has 47 lb per hp
Hurricane has 56 lb per hp
Vegas 24.1 has 34 lb per ft-lb of torque
Hurricane has 39 lb per ft-lb of torque.
So Vegas seems to come out ahead a bit on available power.

I have a friend that does a lot of car racing. He had my F53 “tuned” and it now has 375 hp with 530 ft-lb. I would think you could do the same with the E450. I have no idea what he did but all the crazy transmission shifting stopped and it has a crap load more power.

Hmmmmm...

Would have to find someone I would trust to do that.

But your mention of the tranny brings up another question. I don't see mention of the transmission for the E450 anywhere. I know the F53 now has a 6-speed and forum comments say it has made a huge difference over the older 5-speed.

Does anyone know what the E450 has for transmission?

The E450 has had the 6 spd since the 2016 model year (chassis year).

GVWR is one comparison, but the one that actually makes the difference is the actual weight. While my Axis E450 is rated at 14,500, I weights out at 12,500 fully loaded - which would make it even better. I don’t know about the Hurricane.
