Torque?
Should we torque the wheels on our Class A? We have a 2016 30.1 ACE.

Wheel fasteners/ lug nuts should be uniformly torqued. Your chassis owner manual should list the specified torque value.

I might not have been as clear as I should in that I am wondering if they need to be routinely torqued every so many miles or months as part of our routine maintenance?

I check mine after every oil change and any time a tire shop does tire work on my RV, car, truck or trailer. I have had tire shops drop the ball on this a few times over the years. Sometimes they are too loose, too tight or not uniform. I check them right in their parking lot.

I'm driving the gator (a small underpowered side by side 4x4) two days ago and the left front wheel fell all the way off. One lug nut was right beside it, one 100ft away and no sign of the other three. All other wheels perfectly torqued.
Happened to me on a 1970 1/2 z28. Same drivers side front wheel, same story. Wheel fell off.
I had a vw sandbuggy with a REAL bus trans and the portal axles. Left rear wheel was so loose, but never came off, it slotted the holes about double size.
It never really clunked like you'd think it would.
Check your wheels on occasion.

We've got the six-wheeled version, and it also seems to like unscrewing those lug nuts...

We are real happy with it. The bath and a half was a huge reason to purchase. When we travel with another couple it is very convenient.

I forgot to add that I check the chrome lock nuts that hold the wheel simulators on every time I do a pre trip inspection. I find they have a tendency to loosen.

Lug Nut Torque
How are you guys checking the torque on your motorhome lug nuts? My 2004 Windsport lists 475 ft-lbs of torque and none of my torque wrenches go that high.

Put on a one foot long cheater and measure 238ftlbs.
Or
buy the correct torque extension (look it up) and use that.
Or
Buy a torque multiplier and do the XX:1 math

Torque!
I do mine on my 2016 Thor ACE 294 in the spring before I move it from the storage yard to our camping season campground, and again before I set out on any major trip. The correct torque setting is in the Ford F53 chassis manual. You will need a long handle torque wrench and a socket extension to allow it to clear the wheel well.

For torque that high and much higher, I’ve used my body weight times the correct lever arm length. It’s not perfect but yields surprisingly good results if done carefully — and likely more accurate than a guy with an impact wrench.
I once used this to get 2,400 lb-ft.

Torque!
150 for the wheels on your bus and 450 for the 22 inchers.
Better to her the click with a torque wrench than a snap with a breaker bar in my opinion.

For tightening wheel fasteners/ lug nuts that require that many Ft/lbs I used a Stark Torque Multiplier lug nut remover and a 1/2 inch torque wrench. These cheap torque multipliers are available on Amazon. There are plenty of You tube videos about them too.

If you look carefully at your wheel covers you well see two or three of the fake lug nuts are separate from the wheel covers. Unscrew those and then pull the wheel covers off and you will see the real lug nuts.
