New Floor Plan for Axis / Vegas

I opened up my new Motorhome Magazine on MON and they have a little article on the New Floor plan for the "Axis Model" (Im sure Vegas will do the same).

"Brand new Thor Axis 24.3 is a Murphy Bed Floor Plan".....7.3 L Gas engine.... "Less than 26 foot".....Mulitplex and Wi-Fi Technology...Drop down Bunk, Spacious dinette and large Rear Bathroom".

I checked Thor's site on MON but nothing showing yet for 24.3.

I really like the Murphy Beds in the smaller C's (B plus) models on the market so I think this will be a hit for Axis / Vegas lineup.

Cant wait to see one. Like to see how much storage it has outside.... thats a big selling point to me.

Thanks!

Is this a Murphy bed in a slide? If so (and I’d assume it is), is it one bed slide only or a semi-full-wall slide to include dinette also? Or two slides?

Really glad Thor finally went back to 24-ft models where it makes more sense (to me anyway). If you’re going to build a larger motorhome up to 28-feet, might as well go to F-53 chassis. But I’m not in marketing, so what do I know?

They will probably use the Delano 24fb floorplan.
This new Axis/Vegas will be shorter than the Delano because the cab sits over the engine vs class C engine out front.

Very interesting, was hoping a murphy bed option would make it to the axis/vegas models...

That Delano floorplan is listed at 25’-8”, and if an Axis version ends up significantly shorter (say 25-feet or less), it will be very interesting to see what Thor does with wheelbase. The original 188” will likely be too long. They could try leaving WB at OEM 158” which would save on cost and make more maneuverable, but the longer rear overhang may be too long; particularly if holding tanks are located at very rear of unit.

Their other E-Series motorhomes in +/- 25-ft range (Class C) are built on shorter wheelbase, and that “may” look odd on an Axis Class A RUV.

I always thought that using Ford OEM 176” wheelbase would be ideal so they didn’t have to cut and stretch chassis in middle, but there must be something that keeps the longer OEM chassis from being used.

Delano 24fb has just 34.8 cuft storage vs the 63.5 cuft in a Axis/Vegas 24.1

Although you will get more storage than a Delano because of the storage under the cab across the front. And, the fact that the whole unit sits higher on the frame which will give you more space.

They’d have a hell of a time fitting in a Murphy bed — unless it’s oriented lengthwise like on one B+ of another brand.

If they wanted a non-slide, copying one of many Hymer floorplans would be a great place to start. Or just make an optional “Touring” version of 24.1 with no slide and bike garage under twin beds (pretty much like a Hymer and 100s of European motorhomes). It doesn’t require reinventing the wheel, so it’s obvious that Thor marketing doesn’t see a need for one, or doesn’t want it for other reasons.

Or strap a mattress to the roof, and offer an umbrella as a low-cost option.

It's all about dollars and cents.
They already have the Delano floorplan set up in their system
So it's a simple and cost effective transition.

But your are spot-on regarding the wheelbase. 188" Axis/Vegas is too long.
Delano is on a 170" Mercedes wheelbase.
Four Winds/Chateau has E350/450 chassis in 168" and 176" wheel base

Looks to me like the 2020 Compass/Gemini 23 TW floorplan just a little longer.

I'd never look twice at a folding bed or a bed in a slide.
I can't think of anything more inconvenient in an rv.

Yeah, I bet it looks just like this. It said "Less than 26 foot" so 25.8 foot soounds about right.

How about a busted toilet after the annual chili cook-off?
