That's a powered awning; isn't it?
My 29-H rear awning is manually operated, so I've got nothing for you...

Other than my best wishes that you find a quick solution to this!

manual ramp awning

Hey Bob, my Outlaw has a manual ramp awning also. Could you direct me to a video on-line that describes how to set it up and take it down? I don't think think I'm that thick, but I don't seen any locks or pull-down strap like what's described in the Thor manual. I think those instructions are for a manual side awning. After staring at the thing for a while, I was able to crank the awning out, fearing that I might have broken any locks that hold it in place. Didn't seem to do any damage, but now I can't figure out how to unfold the support arms. It also seems as though the awning material itself is not taut enough when it's completely unfurled, and the jackknife supports don't seem to want to lock in place. Maybe they don't. Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way, it is a Carefree awning. I went to their site, but they are only interested in selling, not operating, one of their products.

It is a bit of a tricky little bugger...
Let me see what I can find for you.

I just did a quick search for a setup video for that critter... and drew blanks!
But here's what I remember...
First: use that supplied "hook" to unroll it from the RV. You need to bring it out far enough to be able to tackle getting the struts out of the rear of it...
As I recall: you slide them out to the left and right until you can get them twisted around and pointed in the right direction. Extend them out, and hook them to their mooring locations.
Now... getting those buggers out in the first place...
I seem to recall having to pick them up a bit at their outer ends so that they would slide out...
But my memory isn't any better than my looks.

If you can take a picture of that outer assembly with the arms tucked-in: somebody in here can get you pointed in the right direction.

OK so far. I'll fight with it tomorrow morning when it's not quite so windy. If I can take pics and post them I will.

Good luck!
Remember that it's not a "fight": it's just an "animated discussion".

Hey Bob, success at last! Your suggestion about "fiddling" with the end of the stored brace did the trick! Took a bit for me to find the spring-loaded ball that keeps the telescoping part of the brace in place. My only question remaining is whether the jointed brace in the 3rd pic is supposed to remain crooked or not. I believe I have the shade cranked out as far as it will go. My supposition is that it has to remain in the position it is in order for the unit to collapse back when you crank it closed. Waddya think?
