Replacement Mattress

I'm hoping that this forum's search function is weak and why I have only found 1 thread on mattresses. Sorry to start a new thread if this is already covered somewhere here.

I'd like to replace the air mattress in our Citation Sprinter 24SR. Getting the bed opened without damaging the galley cabinets and then inflating the monster mattress in the small area left once the bed is opened is a real pain. And once inflated the air mattress blocks access from the rear of the coach to the exit.

I''m looking at a 4" memory foam unit advertised as a replacement for a standard sleeper sofa. Measurements are appropriate for the sofa in the Citation. Has anyone tried this option?

Don't have a Citation but I did get a custom mattress made for the front drop-down bunk in our Axis.
Here is a discussion of what we got: http://www.thorforums.com/forums/f27...bunk-3220.html

The one I ordered is 1/2 & 1/2 memory foam and high density foam in a tri-fold arrangement so I can fold it up for storage. It is probably the most comfortable mattress in the coach now.

Hi,

I purchased a custom mattress from Military Supply House:

Military Supply House - Military Mattresses , 27" Wide Mattresses , 30" Wide Mattresses , 36" Wide Mattresses , Narrow Mattresses , RV Mattresses , Camper Mattresses , Boat Mattresses , Outdoor Mattresses , Custom Shaped Mattresses

$214 including shipping.

The mattress was for the overhead bunk.

They make it to the size you specify and the firmness you specify. I had no idea on firmness so I left it up to them. It is surprisingly comfortable.

Our Dorado had a hide a bed .. the mattress was worn out and probably not very good to begin with.
We ordered a 3 layer memory foam mattress made for a hide a bed. You must be careful, when ordering, to specify the replacement is for a hide a bed, as it cannot exceed a certain thickness, since it must fold up into its enclosure.
We were happy with our replacement mattress.
It cost us over $500.

Hey Oreidde, I hope you found the solution. I'm just looking around for the same thing.

But a quick note on how to search go to google and type

site:thorforums.com XXXXXX

Replace the x's with your search question or keywords. It will use google to search just this site. Sometines it wil still pickup other stuff but it's very helpful.

Thanks for the search tip! That's going to save me tons of frustration.

As for the mattress, not yet. I tried a conventional 4" memory foam but it wouldn't compress enough nor fold to allow closing the couch with it in place.

I then tried an inflatable purpose designed for the back of an SUV but dimensions looked good. It fit but adult users said they could feel the frame through the mattress and were very uncomfortable. It had 4 separate chambers to fill and that was a pain as well.

I've got another inflatable a bit smaller than OEM to try but my rig's in a shop 3 hours away having work done on the diesel generator and the steps recall. I'll post when I get a chance to try it.
