I would drive as far as possible and then when an hour away from final stop check the area. You might be surprised and find a private campground, state or local park campground close to the exit where you can sleep safely. We haven’t stayed at a Walmart and I don’t think I will in future

we don't travel enough for Boondocker's Welcome or Harvest Host but both have gotten good reviews. We use the RVParky app to find over night spots. Our slide out also holds our bed, we can't both sleep in the bunk, so we have to park so that the slide is NOT in the way or likely to get run into by a tired trucker.

Putting down levelers and slides makes it look more like a campground than a parking lot. Our local Walmart has banned rv’s for that reason. They used to allow overnighting til their parking lot became the local RV park. If people continue to abuse these business’ hospitality then the practice nationwide will go the way of our Walmart. Pull in, leave the slides and levelers in and go buy some groceries. Get up early, get your coffee at Mickey D’s and get back on the road. If more peeps would adhere to this etiquette more Wally worlds will stay available for all of us.

Here here.

It all comes down to keeping your "footprint' as light as possible...

From Walmarts website.

Question:Can I park my RV at a Walmart store?
Answer
While we do not offer electrical service or accommodations typically necessary for RV customers, Walmart values RV travelers and considers them among our best customers. Consequently, we do permit RV parking on our store lots as we are able. Permission to park is extended by individual store managers, based on availability of parking space and local laws. Please contact management in each store to ensure accommodations before parking your RV.

All the keep slides in, no levelers. etc are "good neighbor" policies and make sense, but not actually Walmart's requirements.

I believe it comes down to common sense.....

If you have a Wal-mart, Cracker Barrel, etc. that allows it and the parking lot is large, unoccupied for the most part and you are out of the way from the entrances and customer parking (near entrances and exits), I don't see extending a slide to use the bed as an issue. I need to extend my slide for full bed access and our slide does not extend out very far compared to some other rigs.

If you have a busy area and a lot of rigs pulling in for the night, then using a slide may not be best possible situation and it may be better to look for another location.

Now having to level or setting up the chairs, grill and fire ring is a different story.

I always have leveled before extending my slides. It only makes sense to me. Oddly my current coach (SOB) owners manual set up procedure says to plug in to shore power or start the generator, then extend the slides and finally level the coach. It’s not an “instruction” per se, but for the life of me I can’t see why the procedure would be sequenced this way. Not stressing about it and probably will continue to level first but it’s a puzzle.

If you feel that you absolutely have to drop your levelers: you should probably be parking elsewhere...

Sorry!

That's a pretty good line to draw.
If
'Obvious stealth'
Is a thing,
I think that's my line.
If someone with a logical view will justify levelers, Cousin Eddie will justify digging a fire pit.

It's not me needing to hide the fact I'm staying for the night, but my line is anything that would give a clue to any other status. Just my courtesy trying to match the walmart courtesy extended to me.

We can say:
Walmarts extension affects my not extending.

I asked the spousal unit. We don't remember staying at a Walmart. We might have, but I hope my lack of a memorable stay matches walmarts not remembering my stay.

Our local Walmart looks like a campground a lot of the time. A not very well kept campground to boot. We live in a very touristy area of Colorado and I believe some people stay for day's. We have never stayed at a Walmart but if we did it would only be because we couldn't find any where else and we would be as discrete as possible.

Sadly... Yes: it should be considered a "no".
He might even be the Poster Child for all of the "no's"; that are out there.

I didn't thing to get a picture:
Some goof was just in the diner I'm at wearing pajamas, filthy pajamas, with a lion hood and footies.
I am sure he was putting his best foot forward and was striving to make his life better.
