Front hitch on a Axis?

Has anyone added a hitch to the front of their Axis? It might be a crazy idea I dont even know if its possible.

We pull our boat and I would love to figure out how to bring my dirtbike camping too. Any ideas?

That bumper in the front is pretty low: I'd bet you'd have to cut a hole through the bumper.

I was going to suggest looking into combining dirt bike and boat off rear hitch also, but then recalled that hitch has limited tongue weight. You may want to double check that, as well as weigh the motorhome and boat combination (if you haven't done so already) to confirm the rear axle has the extra capacity for dirt bike.

Out of curiosity, how heavy is your dirt bike? Many are fairly light.

The way the hood hinge is mounted to the front I just don't see how it is possible. There would also be a huge problem with air circulation to the radiator and transmission oil cooler.

Now that you mention it: The windshield washer tank would probably have to be moved to make room for the receiver.

For a similar need, I built a sub-frame with 2-inch receivers in line with chassis frame rails, which leaves the regular hitch free to tow. Dual receivers spaced over 3 feet apart also keeps anything I'm carrying from rocking.

If you are going to have something built for your motorcycle, assuming weight-carrying capacity is there, I would recommend considering something similar.

I looked at one of those lifts for the rear but I am not sure hitch can hold up weight (they are also like $4k) which lead me to the idea of a front hitch but like Jamie said I think the Axis might be too low. Mines in shop right now so I can look at it.

I was thinking some kind of sub frame for the rear hitch might be better. My bike is pretty light it's only 250lb but with both bike and boat probably way over tongue weight.

Thanks for all the advice I am going to see if these guys have any ideas Torklift Central | Motorhome Chassis Frame Upgrade - Custom Fabrication

We are wanting to do the same thing and would love to hear your ideas. There is a double hitch that could you could do that with on the rear but the vertical capacity on that motor home hitch is only 500 lb. which is probably close to what both our trailers need unless yours is aluminum. Also, the RV rear frame might not be happy with more weight.
Then consider how much weight your bike rack will add. I just wonder what this going to do to our fuel mileage but we will probably only do it once in awhile
I'm hoping we can trade ideas.

The following is what I just sent etrailer

We just bought a new motorhome which is a Thor axis 25.6 which is approximately 26 feet long mounted on a E-SERIES CUTAWAY & STRIPPED CHASSIS.
But it looks like a class A motorhome body . We want to be able to carry a trike scooter that weighs less than 500 pounds on the front.
I think this will also help launching our 22 ft 4800 lb boat rig including trailer that we will be towing. In the past we used to launch one of our boats with our 26 ft motorhome. No problem. We could probably only do this at certain steep boat ramps.
I hope you can tell me what I need and information to anyone else that has done a similar install.

Welcome to the site Edki.

Your Axis is built on an E-450 VAN chassis, just like a Class-C.

There have been people who have added a front hitch.

Any E450 front hitch kit fits an AXIS.
They're about 109 bucks on etrailer and except for a 3x3 inch hole(about 20 minutes to cut with any saw which will cut fiberglas) you cut behind your front license plate, it's a one hour install of an excellently built custom fit laser cut and we'll finished part.
Four to six bolts and you're done.

Information on this etrailer hitch and my custom front hitch are in the thread in my signature.

I like that idea.

I have seen a pictures from someone on this forum that has done this exact thing (Axis or Vegas). I think they have a hitch plate they add cover this hitch (perhaps its a front licence plate for them?). Do some searches.... If I find it I will post later.

The protrusion isn't neccasary.
It can flush mount and be covered with a license plate bracket.
