Take the awning off entirely.
Handle it later.
Replacing it in its entirety might be cheaper/easier/readily available.

Won’t the rain water get into the slide mechanism without it?

Taking it off does not seem trivial but is possible.

Trying to put it together with bondo and some strips of metal now .

A list of accessories for your coach is on the back of a bedroom closet door. Carefree of Colorado sells directly to owners. What you need is an end cap and bracket of roller. You can also find Carefree parts on Amazon,

Water should not get in without a awning. It’s there to keep debris off the top of the slide and impairing the seals. Many new units come without them. Do what Duck said. Remove it. Stow the parts and repair when you get home.

Most awning parts are "Backordered", we're in the process of rebuilding ours.
You'll need the serial # off of the awning.

Go to Carefree of Colorado and enter the serial #
https://www.e-carefree.com/ecarefree...vletController

This "looks like your broken part, double check before ordering!

Here it is on Amazon

We used a couple of these to tie it to the roof, around the ac unit to get ours home
