Step Recall

This is likely a repeat but worth putting up nonetheless.

Yesterday I discovered, the hard way, that there's a hazardous failure potential of certain Lippert Coach Step models. I was NOT notified by Thor but discovered the recall after my steps collapsed under me as I was entering my 2015 Citation Sprinter 24SR. searching for a replacement part led to the discovery.

The recall involves a large bolt that attaches the fan gear to the step assembly. Apparently there have been sufficient number of incidents of the bolt shearing off to prompt a recall. When it fails a threaded portion of the bolt remains in the assembly and the remainder eventually falls out. When it does the stairs hang from of the assembly and swing freely up and down but not lock in either direction.

NHTSA, Lippert and others have announcements/info on line. Just google coach step recall. Considering the risks, a nasty fall, steps flying off while rig is in motion etc, I would strongly recommend getting the recall work done as soon as your dealer can get the kit in. It appears consumers can't order directly from Lippert.
