Thor Hurricane 31s
Hi everyone! After being out of the RV club for 12 years. I am coming back. I use to own a 24ft TT and I am purchasing a 2017 Thor Hurricane 31s. I have my PDI scheduled Monday. I would appreciate any recommendations on items I should purchase right out of the gate.
Thanks
cvflowe

Congratulations on your new coach!!! A good water hose, pressure regulator, and a quality sewer hose with clear 45 degree and 90 degree fittings. Also a 4” foam mattress topper for the bed. The topper will hang over the edges so it will need to be trimmed with an electric carving knife or bread knife.
Best wishes and go have FUN!!!

Make sure you leave no stone (screw, drawer, cabinet, storage area, water system, etc.) unturned during your PDI.

Welcome back to the world of vagabonds!
I recommend a TPMS and a surge protector. Two systems, that in my un-informed opinion, should be standard equipment.

If you are close to a freeway, take it out for an extended test drive at highway speeds. You may be able to hear things rattle and squeak that will need to be attended to. My test drive was way to short and only on city streets.
Also resist the temptation to start throwing money at it. Some of the upgrades I made in the first few months probably were not the best choices.
Much if not most of my handling problems are due to the California concrete slabs that should have been replaced 20 years ago. (southern call anyway)
Good luck and have fun,

Thanks again everyone for your input. We have picked up our unit. We spent the holiday weekend camping and found mostly minor things. I will fix these items. However, I did find what appears to be a washer or a bolt protruding from the vinyl floor. I'm not sure how this would be fixed without either a replacement piece of vinyl or repairing that section. Either would give me an ugly seam. I may just leave it and monitor. It's funny how you find these things after the PDI. I must say, we enjoyed our first camping event with family. The systems on the hurricane performed flawlessly.
P.S. Yes, Southern California roads are horrific! Especially the truckers lane.

Here's a little FYI: I also have a new 31S. Bought it in May. Had a bunch of minor warranty stuff done in July and currently have it in for more warranty work, this time on the dinette slide (controller wiring was installed incorrectly) and an issue with the levelers which is still being investigated. I did the Cheap Handling Fix on the rear and am having a steering stabilizer put on the front. I recommend both of those. We do like the unit but plan to get a satellite system and also want to replace the sofa with either theater seating or recliners. I am not that impressed with the workmanship of Thor and have told them as much. I have had to download most of the manuals for the various equipment (front and rear radios, leveler system, generator) from the internet as they weren't supplied. After seeing how the unit handles with the steering stabilizer I may put on a rear track bar. We white knuckled it from central MN (where we bought it) to western SD (where we live) and that made me decide to work on the handling. The dealer had the tires at 105 psi & I now have them at 84 plus I had the front end aligned. Those changes made a big difference but did not solve the handling issue completely, hence the CHF and stabilizer. Still learning about the rig and figuring things out. Hope to head south in a couple weeks and are looking forward to doing the rv thing.

Thanks for this information. You are correct, I had to download manuals for everything? Did you get a manual for the chassis? I'm trying to find Fords service recommendations.

I also had a screw beginning to pop up in the vinyl floor in the main walkway. Rather than having the dealer make a repair that I wouldn't be happy with, I did it myself. I used an X-acto knife to cut a slit around the screw head, carefully pulled the tiny piece of vinyl back, unscrewed the screw, filled the screw hole in with wood filler, put the screw back in, and then used several drops of Gorilla super glue to glue the vinyl piece back over the screw head. I was very pleased with how it turned out. You would have to know that it was there to detect it.

cvflowe: Yes I did get a manual for my F53 chassis. It is not a very thick manual but it does have the maintenance requirements in it. Nice info to have. BTW, we are liking our 31S quite a bit.

X3 on the screw head pushing out of the floor in the main walk way. Was told it was part of the heating ducts. Dealer called in a flooring specialist for the fix. They did a great job and i cant even find the cut/seem they made to remove or tighten the screw.
I didnt recieve any manuals for components (ac water heater etc) so i called Thor customer service. Two weeks later i received a box filled with ever manual. More than what i needed or wanted. Just give them a call. They are always very helpful.
If you call ask for the roof plumbing and electrical diagrams. They will mail them or my preference was email
Merry Christmas
