taylorbob - we had our windshield replaced a year ago this month, it was 5K$ installed. insurance paid for all but 500$, our deductible. it took two windshields, the first was a little warped, the installer was very good, rejected it and ordered another. he stated there are only 2 manufacturers of that windshield in the USA. took over a month, in Nevada.
very sad note - we spent this summer in Alaska, drove 9k miles without a windshield event, the day we crossed the border into Canada some rv rental was speeding on way to Alaska kicking up rocks, and WHACK, we got a chip. i almost cried. very fortunately we were in Whitehorse in a day or two and had a windshield repair shop glue it. fingers crossed, it hasn't spread. that was sept 8.
