Replacing manual awning with power

I have read quite a bit on this, and definitely know that we want to swap over, but I was wondering if anyone had any preferred brands or any that we should avoid at all costs.

A great many of the patio awnings are available to the OEM only as the coach requires significant strength where the awning supports are attached. Make sure your coach wall can support the supports for the the awning you choose.

I didn't even consider that. If it currently has an awning, it would stand to reason that it could support an electric awning of a similar weight wouldn't it?

Yes if it uses the same style of attachments. CoC latitude, Girard require special steel metal plates attached to side walls aluminum structure at the very top of the wall. After all, the two roller arms support the entire assembly's weight with four 1/4" cap screws. There are no lower side wall support. By the same token, if your RV came with a Girard patio awning there are no side wall attachment points for the typical Atwood patio awning. Typically there are small steel plates in the wall everywhere there is sheet metal or cap screw driven into the wall.
