Title year different than Paper work signed

We are new here, just bought a new Windsport 34J. Was told at Camping World we were looking at a new 2017. All the paper work we signed says 2017. I just got the title in the mail and it says 2016. I will call the dealer Monday morning about this. They have 2018's on the lot so that makes ours 2 years old already. We feel we should be entitled to some money back if we accept a 2016 and was told we bought a 2017. Any one run into this before. Thanks for any help you can give.

Just a thought, but maybe that is the year of the chassis. They can run a year behind the actual coach.

That's true, and this may vary state-to-state, but my 2016 ACE on a 2015 chassis has a 2016 title as it is a 2016 Thor product, not a Ford product that you bought.

Thanks for the replies. I looked up the chassis and it is a 2016. I am just upset that I thought I bought a 2017 from the advertisement they had to the paper work I signed, then i get the title that says I own a 2016

But what does it say for the Manufacturer? You may have a 2016 Ford chassis, but you should have a 2017 Thor Windsport motorhome.

Title says 2016 Thor Windsport. Build date on label on door way shows manufactured 04/2016. When does the model year change?

I had the same. 2016 chassis and 2017 Ace. I advised the DMV when I got the 2016 title and they corrected it to 2017. The year of the MH is the key.

We bought a Windsport at the January 2014 Cleveland RV show from Camping World, Akron. All the paperwork we signed at the show indicated 2014. We wanted an April delivery so CW ended up having to order our coach. On March 27th we went to inspect the coach and sign all the paperwork. When the lady was going through the paperwork she discovered that our unit came in titled as a 2015. Lucky us. They had to redo all the paperwork and change the year to 2015.

How will this affect your insurance value in the event of a total loss? What about your lender, they think they have a 2017 coach as collateral? Good luck. Let us know how this is resolved.

For RVs? Whenever they feel like it. My 2016 ACE was built in June 2016 as I recall; I'll check tomorrow. I think I'd be heading back to the dealer for a "talk".

Ours is a 2017, however the chassis its built on is a 2016. DMV goes by the vin number which is on the chassis.

Same here in Texas.

So then does your titles also say 2016? Some day if I go to sell it how can I say its a 2017 when the title says 2016. It will be worth less money as a 2016 in a few years.

My title says 2016 but this is common and most people will understand that the coach itself is a 2017.

Yes, our title states 2017. All was aware in my case, the bank, insurance company and dealer. The DMV didn't charge me to correct the title. The insurance agent did say the year of the MH was the key as chassis don't generally change.

Mine is a 2014 Hurricane on a 2013 F-53 chassis... Titles in both Michigan and Florida have had it listed as 2014 - which is what I would expect...
How long the chassis set on Thor's lot doesn't matter - the final product was a 2014 MH.

Many states are different when it comes to titling a coach, some go by chassis year and others by coach year. Can be confusing!

When my coach was first registered the DMV first registered it as a 2014 F53 which was the result of their VIN search. Once they received the paperwork they corrected that to match the paperwork received from the dealer which is 2015 Thor Challenger.

My insurance company has a rider stating the vehicle type is a motor home and uses what is listed in the DMV records.

In Virginia the DMV records are used to collect the Personal Property Tax (PPT) every year so DMV is motivated to have their records correct. A 2015 Challenger is worth more than a 2014 F53 so the PPT is a lot higher. Since the PPT funds the counties they keep DMV straight on issues related to vehicle value.

My Challenger has 2 stickers on the wall by the driver's seat. One is the unfinished vehicle sticker from Ford for the 2014 chassis listing the VIN, GVWR, GCWR etc... and the second is the Thor coach sticker listing the motor home serial number, date of manufacture and motor home year.

from a practicality standpoint, the CHASSIS, which is usually produced by Ford, Freightliner, etc., are already assigned YEAR and VIN numbers at their respective factories as they are produced.
With shipping times to the RV factory, and time sitting on their lot before actual manufacture of the RV portion, the manufacturer's MODEL YEAR may have changed, meaning that the RV is a 2018, but the Chassis is a 2017, etc.

Some state are very specific in their TITLE procedures and will ONLY use the date of manufacture of the VEHICLE itself, not what the RV Manufacturer 'says' that the Model year is, though you still OWN the newer model year RV, and any future resale will reflect that, no matter what the title states as the 'vehicle' year, which can be different.

Other states go by the 'MODEL YEAR' produced by the factory, which cuts down considerably on confusion.

The same thing can be said about the engine. A Cummins diesel engine installed at the Freightliner factory in SC can be a 2017 engine 'serial' number, going into a Freightliner 2018 model Chassis. It's just the nature of how all the components come together over time. Your warranty on the engine is not already a year old when you buy it, the warranty only starts when you buy it, no matter when it was produced.

You can argue with your state about how your RV year is titled, but any future owner can easily find out the actual 'Year Model' of your RV by contacting the manufacturer if there is any question. There are also brochures that you can keep with your paperwork to confirm this for any future questions that arise.

Our Palazzo has also a similar situation. It is titled as a 2014 Thor Palazzo 33.3., but it is really a late-year Palazzo, a 2014 1/2, since some changes were made at the factory during the year that created a 'higher standard' with the 3-trax Schwintec slide rails. This makes a difference to many buyers, but the 2014 year model doesn't show this on the title, it looks titled just as any other 2014 model. My paperwork and factory sheet, though, show the upgrade.

just a thought here....
but in the big scheme of things the actual year doesn't really matter, does it? Maybe a bit for resale, but again in the big scheme of things.... that's probably not that significant.

but
one thing that would matter...going to an auto parts store to get parts for the chassis based on the wrong year. 99% of the time that wouldn't matter either, but I'd suppose there are cases where changes are made to the chassis when this could be an issue....
meanwhile, I can't think of a single case where the year of the coach really matters (in terms of maintenance, buying parts, etc...)

I don't know, maybe my perspective is just warped.
Mine was a NEW 2013 model, that rolled off the Thor line March 2013 on a 2013 chassis, but I bought in June 2014....so my NEW coach started life with a 1 year ding. Honestly, it hasn't affected the enjoyment we've had with it a bit.

Oh, I should add that based on everything I have been able to determine, the Ford warranty started the day I bought it.
