Toured the Vegas/Axis plant today

Worked out perfectly for us, as tours are only on Wednesday afternoons. Sadly, no photos allowed. One of the regional sales reps walked us, and two other couples thru, and answered endless questions. We're,we owners, (two days), and one couple was on there second one. We saw subtle improvements of the 2016s, that explain why we aren't having some of the issues that have been discussed here. (Such as wind and engine noise.)
They seem to have a sharp focus on quality, just what I wanted to see. We've done tours at Jayco, Winnie, and Tiffin, and the process is similar. The difference is in engineering and quality control. No robots anywhere in sight today, so it comes down to the craftsmen and the inspection.
Thanks, Chad, for giving us a great tour!

Mr. Sunshine,

Newbie here, where is the Plant? I would love to go there as a road trip. Just took delivery of our 2016 Vegas 24.1 on 30May15. Would like to see things and ask questions...especially about the dash radio and what it is and is not hooked up to.

Please advise.

The plant is in Elkhart, IN:
Top Motorhome Manufacturer Plant Tour

I'd also love to take some time off to visit the plant for a tour--compare it to other plants I've been in and/or toured (F-150 plant: Ford Rouge Factory Tour - America's Greatest Manufacturing Experience, Boeing plant: Future of Flight Aviation Center & Boeing Tour ½ Hr N of Seattle ).

2700 So Nappanee St, Elkhart. IN. It's right on hwy19, not far off the tollway. Allow some time for the RV museum.

With all due respect, a great tour does not prove improved quality. Keep watching this forum and we will see if the 2016's are improved from the number of problems their owners have. I would love to believe it is true - but remain very skeptical!

I agree about remains to be seen. It does appear that they are attempting to address the issues owners have expressed. We've only gone 400 miles so far, but the noise level in our 16 is very tolerable, much quieter than our former class A. During the tour, we could see why.
Count on issues with all manufacturers, and here. , too. We were shocked at Red Bay to see so many newer Tiffns lined up for repairs. Stay tuned...

FYI, there were noticeable improvements made to the 2016 Vegas. All new led lights. The fit and finish was really good. The inside is really quiet. Our chassis is the upgraded E450 so the ride was a little smoother. The awning might be the best feature ever. The led light lit us up like the moon on a dark night. We could be seen through out the RV park.

Would like to see a digital dash and more technology

I just picked up my 2016 Axis-24.1 , here are the changes I noticed:

E450 Chassis
LED lights
four port USB changing station in bedroom
All three TV's are 32
DVD/SAT wiring in bedroom, cab and outdoor unit
king jack digital hdtv antenna
Exterior speakers
Radio can be controlled via bluetooth from outside the RV(might not be new feature)

There are others I can't remember

On our 2014 Axis all of the interior lights are LED. (In addition I believe all of the lights in the exterior storage compartments are also LED.)

On our 2016 Vegas 24.1 (E350 series) the little lights on the awning are also LED's.

The King-Jack Digital HDTV antenna is different than what we have.

Is the E-450 chassis a 2016 Ford model year chassis with the 6R140 6-speed transmission? I'm wondering when they will run out of 2015 chassis.

No lights on our awning at all --unless I hang them.

Ed, Have you added an extra shade curtain that extends down from the awning? I saw some as we drove around the RV sites at Myrtle Beach this past September. I am trying to figure how/where they hook into.

Doc,

The ones I have seen hook in one of two ways. Either they have a bead at the end of the curtain which slides into a track on the awning or they have eyelets and get hooked to either the ends of the awning tube or to hooks that slide into an awning track.

With that said, if you have the LED lights installed on the awning tube you may not have an empty track in which to install anything. My prior coach had a Dometic awning and the front awning curtain/valance and awning itself were threaded into the same track and the LED lights were installed on the side of the coach below the awning fabric. This left 2 tracks open for things such as awning curtains or hooks. The Challenger does not have an empty track on the awning tube that allows this type of mounting for anything.

Yep, i figured that the lights were where the screen would go. When the rains quit I'll roll out the awning and see if there is another way.

Thanks.

Tom

Oops, sorry. You answered already when I wasn't looking...
