Vegas 24.1 - Adding engine oil

I need a little help with finding where the engine oil filler cap is on our 2018 Vegas 24.1. I have looked under the hood but can't seem to find it. Do I need to remove the engine cover inside? That would be a real pain!

It’s on the left side near the batter box. Usually easier if you remove the air intake hoses by loosening the clamps.

Once you get a line of sight, you’ll spot the yellow cap. Best to use a large funnel with an extension to keep your work outside the engine compartment. I use a wide mouth funnel and a piece of 1 inch plastic tubing. Hope this works for you

Thanks for asking this question. 2018 24.1. I'll definitely check that method out especially the mention of looking for the yellow cap. Some mention it is easier to access from under the right passenger fold down dash area where you would find the battery. We will both have to do this some day. The engine cover dog house is a pain but understand if you live in the south the heat from an uninsulated dog house is miserable but there are things that can be done to mitigate this.

I found the yellow cap. Was investigating a battery issue that i know will happen eventually and wanted to mod the access area. After removing the passenger side desk the yellow cap is easily seen and accessible. Also moved the hoses off of the battery preventing future problems by tying them up with zip ties. (one hose was zip tied to the battery cable). Clear sight to the battery now as well as the filler for the oil. Currently trying to find the best permanent way to make the plywood access to our batteries and oil filler user friendly...

I used this same method but found it to be difficult with the space between engine cover. Definitely going snooping under desk for better results.

Yesterday I broke the seal to investigate. Oil filler is easily accessible to the left. I re routed the hoses off of the battery and now have a clear view of that as well.

One hose was zip tied to the battery cable and the other was tied up with other electrical components. Used hanger ties and secured them off the engines

Just curious. What weight oil is on the oil fill cap of your Vegas?

Finished the access panel. In anticipation of having to add oil or jump the battery while on the road I at least have a fighting chance.

Did you reuse the same panel that you cut out?

Yes, Used 1/8 inch plywood and attached the cutout piece. Was going to glue them together but the screws I had were coincidentally the right size. The plywood slides in the forward and right side easily. It feels stable and seals well, I added one screw to the forward part to hold in place but may not have needed it. I also trimmed the sides of the opening to make the piece fit well.

Did you run into any trouble removing the "workdesk"?

No trouble at all. Simple with a battery screw driver. A you-tube video exists for the 24.1. The most difficult part is coming up with a way to re seal the hole and making it easy to access in the future when you need too.

I could have cut another piece of 1/2 inch ply wood to fit the hole instead of rigging the piece I removed which leaves about 1/4 all the way around. The 1/8 plywood makes a pretty stable base for whatever you use to cover the hole.

Even if you decide to access oil and the battery some other way, the duct system sits on the battery and could cause problems in the future. Good idea to get that off of it by using hanger zip ties. Makes it easier to see everything as well.
