Venting issue when filling fresh water tank

Tried to put fresh water in my tank this afternoon. I had filled it about 2/3 of the way up a couple of months ago, but it was almost completely empty today. Every time I would put the hose into the connector, within 30 seconds the water would be pouring out of it, down the side of the coach, as though the tank were full. This happened no matter how far down I turned the flow of water. I could visually see the tank was no more than 1/4th full at this point, so I decided to turn the release valve quickly and close it again. After hearing a "glug" sound, I went back outside and sure enough, the water wasn't flowing down the side any more. That is, for another 30 seconds. Then the whole process would start again.

Clearly, there is some type of vent that isn't working as designed because the air in the tank was preventing water from flowing down the water tube. Anyone have a quick "fix" or solution? (I DID search for this but it only showed results where people were getting water in their fresh water tanks while they were attached to city water, which is clearly another problem.)

The vent is right there next to the fill opening, in the same plastic piece. I have seen them clogged by mud daubers before but I have also heard of cases where the fill hose got kinked and wouldn't allow filling.

I saw that but wasn't 100% sure what I was looking at. I'll give it a look and see what I find.

Thanks!

if you have access to the tank inside, you can also see if there are any kinks

I don't have a valve of any freshwater tank sort on my 2018 24.1(that I've found)
What valve, where, did you turn?

(mine fills just fine, I'll be of no help with your problem)

Yep. The vent hose was definitely kinked!

Thanks for the help!

Yes you do. That big red one down there is what allows you to empty your fresh water tank. It is under your passenger side bed.

Remove the mattress on the passenger side rear bed and remove any screws holding the panel there down. You should be able to lift the panel under the mattress up. Underneath there is all your water stuff (including the drain valve, low point drains, water pump, etc.).

Also check your fill line that it doesn't dip down between the fill port and the tank. I had this issue and they raised it a bit in the middle. Water would pool in the hose and cause it to back up. It needs to be a gradual grade downward.

This is EXACTLY what mine is doing. Between that and the kinked vent tube, I'm not surprised that it gave me issues!!! I'll find a way to trim some off or make it a straight shot down from the filler connection.

Thanks!

Thanks for the picture.
I don't remember seeing that there, but since it is, it'll make it a LOT easier to hook up the drivers side water fill I'm going to splice into the city water line.

I had the same problem on my 2016 Quantum PD31. I removed the bed platform and saw the breather hose fell way below the fill hose. This caused an air lock. I solved this by securing the breather hose to the top of the filler hose with zip ties. Just don’t over tighten the zip ties. After, I could fill without any issue. Hope this helps.

I had the same problem but found an easier way. I also tried to turn down the flow so it would not come back out of the fill. That just seemed to make it worse. Tried turning the hose on full blast and have not had a problem since. Don't really understand but it works. Jim.

I wouldn't trim it...just try to raise it a little by moving it over if there's room. You might need that extra inch or two someday. Until they got it fixed, I wrapped electrical tape around the end of the hose and just held it in the port tight enough to get the flow started by force. Once it got flowing it created a siphon effect enough to get it filled.
