I bought a light kit but that didn’t retrofit into the existing handle like I thought, so I just bought an identical handle that came with the light. It was quick work to wire it into the step light. I really like it- lets me not bug my neighbors with a porch light, but I can see exactly where my door is when coming back in the dark.
To wire into existing light switches is easy, although maybe not straightforward. Existing light switches are typically just completing a connection on the power wire, and the light’s ground is elsewhere. You need to tap the + into the existing light switch you want to use, then tap any ground in the switch panel with the -, as there’s bound to be a non-light switch with an actual ground wire in there somewhere (usually black).
