what do I need for a toad?

After a lot of research we just purchased a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Sport to tow behind our 2018 Windsport 29M. What do we have to purchase to completely setup our Jeep? Product recommendations would be appreciated. What so be the total cost? Thanks.

Roughly $3000... actual will depend on sales, and how much work you do yourself...

Towbar/Baseplate: Most popular seem to be Roadmaster and Blue Ox. I use the Roadmaster Falcon All Terrain - allows for connect/disconnect with vehicles uneven/unaligned.

Brakes: Choice between portable and permanent install. I chose permanent and went with Roadmaster Invisibrake - which uses the vehicles power brakes (supplies its own vacuum) and charges the toad battery while towing. All systems include a form of breakaway protection. Many have a 'monitor' in the cab of RV.

Lights: Some form of lighting for rear of the toad - ranges from magnetic add ons, to additional bulbs added to fixtures, to additional wiring with protection diodes to existing lights or an OEM offering...
I used the OEM Mopar harness for the Wrangler - plugs in under dash - and uses the normal Jeep wiring to taillights.

Safety chains, locks, other miscellaneous stuff.

Shop brands - choose your options - include any installation in your numbers - and see what you can get the best deal on.
Don't think you can go wrong with any Roadmaster or Blue Ox setup.

I went with Roadmaster base plate. Easy install as its a direct bolt on to the frame. No drilling needed and the bumper does not have to be removed.

i went with the Ready Brute tow system by NSA (Night Shift Auto). Its the tow bar and brake system all in one. It even includes the safety cables. I installed everything myself. Easy install but a little work. Having someone help would be a plus.

Ready Brute also has the required emergency break away switch. Sold separate from the Ready Brute.

Youll also need a brake light/turn signal lighting. Hopkins is very popular.

I bought everything on Amazon.

I needed a 4" drop hitch. I got that directly from NSA.

I think everything cost about $1500-$2000 but I did the work so no install fees.

it works very well and would buy it again if I had to do it over.

We did it as a DIY project. Ordered Blue OX tow bar and base plate from Amazon. Patriot from E-trailer and think the wiring harness from Amazon. Made my own harness from the Jeep to the MH.
Videos on E-trailer showed how to do the base plate and tail light wiring.
I took my time with it and spread the work over two days.

Check out 'wermudfun' on YouTube. They have a Jeep to Toad series that is excellent. I followed it to the letter and am very happy with the outcome. It's using a surge brake tow bar, but if you have a different preference, you can certainly change it. I like mechanical connections like this, but that's just me.

If you are near St Louis I would deal with etrailer and take it to them for free install. Their prices are competitive and you can’t beat free install by professionals. They can send you a quote and recommendations over the web. Very pleased with the service I received.
