What is next for Axis/Vegas? Floorplan discontinued.

Thor seem to have dropped the Axis/Vegas 25.6 and is now down to only two floorplans again; the original 24.1 and latest 24.3. These just happen to be the smallest, lightest, and lowest cost. Maybe coincidence?

Each time they have eliminated floorplans it preceded introduction of a new one. So what’s next for these unique Class A motorhomes, assuming the end is not near?

In what direction would you like to see Thor take the Axis/Vegas line?

It could mean only that Thor is consolidating lines to deal with supply shortages. The two remaining Axis models are both E350 chassis based. The discontinued ones were E450s.

I am obviously prejudiced as I have a new Axis 24.1. Best layout for this short Class A IMO. I hope that they keep it.

The only path I can see is a more rugged model- higher clearance, more solar and Lithium batteries installed, all to compete with Winnebago's Ekko. At $50k difference in MSRP there is a lot Thor could do to match the EKKO. 4WD won't be easy but I could live without it.

Funny thing is: after our long trip this year I started looking around at new coaches (online) and really couldn't find anything that was a better fit for us than our 7 year old 24.1.

Its no wonder that floorplan has stood the test of time (even though it is no longer offered on the Compass and Gemini RVs).

The 24.1 must sell pretty good for Thor to keep playing around with other Axis/Vegas floorplans--they just haven't landed on another one as popular.

I love the Tiffin Wayfarer 25 LW floorplan with pass-thru storage (very very similar to the 24.1)
But there's not enough carrying capacity (weight) for all my stuff

Yes, I am surprised that the the other Thor products (Compass/Gemini Ford AWD, Delano/Tiberon/Quantum/Chateau/4 Winds Sprinter) do not offer the 24.1 style floorplan.

Also, the suggested retail price of the small class C's has gotten out-of-control.

David, the difference in MSRP is $30,762 comparing base units. EKKO is listed at $163,662 and Axis $132,900. I don’t know if Winnebago EKKO requires as much discounting, but MHSRV discounts Axis 25% to +/- $99k in present ads.

EKKO includes large lithium battery, 455 Watt solar, 2,000 Watt inverter/charger, 2nd dedicated alternator, AWD, much more insulation, dual pane windows, etc. that makes EKKO better suited for 4-season and or off-pavement adventures.

Axis on the other hand is larger, has a small slide, and a lot more room. Plus it costs considerably less.

It’s like comparing apples and oranges to some degree. Having said that, Thor could try building a smaller Axis since larger floor plans don’t seem to work out well long term. In my opinion it would not take much effort to design and build an Axis in the 23-foot long range like the EKKO.

Whether a smaller Axis/Vegas the size of an EKKO would have market appeal is anyone’s guess. I think Thor should not compete directly with EKKO, but could try a lower-cost “touring” floorplan similar to 24.1 but with standard 158-inch WB (save cost of stretching) and slideless. Like EKKO and Tiffin Wayfarer, elevate twin beds and add bike/gear garage. Smaller size could not only reduce cost, but reduce weight and thereby increase OCCC.

Inflation seems high for As also. Perhaps because Class Cs gained market share over Class As their price went up even faster. I’m not sure.

When I bought my 2021 Axis early this year the MSRP was about $115,000. So it is now $133,000. Wow, I think I just made some money and I have only had mine 6 months. I should be able to sell it for what $10,000 more than what I paid in January.

That ekko exactly answers those among us who chant:
It should have been factory equipment from Thor
Thor should have installed better batteries.
Thor should have used better paint.
Thor and their axxera grabage.

It's a price point some refused to meet. Those things are Ekko...and those folks didn't step up.

I think the dropped line might have been a consolidation.
If given too many choices some folks do nothing.
And or
If 24.1 sells 10,000 units and production is behind, cancel the 1,000 unit unit.

'I hope they keep making xyz'
Why?
If you have one who cares?
If you don't have one and wouldn't consider a used one(want outweighs reason), why would you consider a new one...that you haven't bought ?

Just asking.
I don't understand because I don't wish they still made 1969 camaros but I'd sure have one if I wanted one.

As expected, Thor discontinued one floor plan to make room for a new one. The new 24.4 is not shown on Thor website yet (as I write this post) but should be formally introduced at Hershey RV Show during next couple of days.

I personally think it’s a much better floor plan design than the recently-introduced 24.3, and in many ways makes 24.3 unnecessary. It would not surprise me if 24.3 is discontinued before long.

Keeping length shorter to 24.X size is a smart move in my opinion, although the larger/longer slide may discourage some buyers. On the other hand will please others.

Biggest improvement on the 24 series I see in that new floorplan is that larger shower same size as our ACE. Wife and I loved the 24.1 floorplan but the small shower was a deal breaker. Any mention of which chassis? Got to figure the 350.

The WEB site mentions E-450 under description, but may or may not be accurate. Specs should be updated soon.

MSRP is listed at $148,786, making it significantly more expensive than 24.1 and 24.3. Although, cost difference between E-350 and E-450 is not very much by comparison.

The new 24.4 is similar to discontinued 25.6 which was on E-450, except for it being about a foot shorter, and having bathroom moved to rear of coach where it is now more spacious.

The 25.6 floor plan is below for reference.

The new 24.4 is the same as the Delano 24FB which is built on Sprinter 11,030-pound chassis, so maybe an E-350 at 12,500-pound GVWR is a possibility. It’s hard to say where OCCC would end up on an E-350.

Can that bed be used if the slide is retracted?

One thing for the DW and myself is even thought it might be tight we must have full functionality of the coach is all slides are retracted. In our current rig we cannot access one lower sink cabinet if all slides are in.

IF it can, it would still block access to the bathroom without climbing across the bed with the Murphy bed down.

But you likely could always sleep on the dinette with the slide in without using the murphy bed. You could also sleep on the drop-down bunk in the cab if the dinette was unusable.

Of course if you're travelling with 5 people that wouldn't work and would be mighty tight in there LOL.
