Morimoto LED headlights on f550

Has anyone done this headlight swap? Just looking for advice before I head down this path.

Beyond the "cool" factor, consider:
What are you wanting in lighting performance? Downrange throw, coverage, or a little of both?

LED lights "look cool", but how much of those lumens are projected DOWN the road - FAR out in front where you NEED it? They may appear bright to the eye, but that may be NO HELP when driving a 6 - 8 ton motorhome at night. Considering stopping distance, you need DOWNRANGE illumination - FAR ahead of you. Most LED systems are NOT well designed for that, because they lack proper projection lenses. For long distances, HID output bulbs with well designed projector assemblies are still king.

For close range "dispersed" lighting, LEDs work very well. Although appearing extremely bright, they typically only illuminate a relatively short distance in front.

If I were investing that large of a sum into lighting, I'd make sure it's TRULY effective and functional. Ask LOTS of questions. "BRIGHT" doesn't mean "FUNCTIONAL".

thank you for the advice. The stock lights are unusable for night driving in my opinion. I've already upgraded those to aftermarket LED bulbs but find that they throw the light all over. The reviews n these are that they are indeed the best and do an excellent job. Im ok with the spend if they improve my ability to see at night. Was hoping maybe someone here had done and could shed some light on it for me

This is definitely a time where you want to "make light" of your situation!

Don’t most RVs use an off the shelf car headlight? I know mine uses headlight units from a Dodge Charger. Why then would they be unusable in an RV when we rarely hear complaints from car drivers. I’d start by aiming the stock units carefully on a fully loaded coach.

yep, On the Thor Magnitude, the cab is the ford super duty (f550) chassis. The stock headlights (at least on mine) are halogen I believe and are quite weak. So, while they pass whatever requirements the govt has on lights, they arent bright at all and dont work well. There is a huge aftermarket precisely for that reason. I'm strictly interested in performance, I dont care at all about looks or coolness. Just want to be able to see where Im driving at night :P
