I believe to 'lower' the upper bunk, you LIFT the bunk up enough to then turn the 'hinges' out of the way, then lower the bunk...
as for the bunk doors - if you're using the area as a closet, then I can maybe see the need for doors to 'close' the area off... but...
if you're using it as a bunk house, as originally intended, then door tend to just get in the way - the weight of the doors also can present a problem since the hinges need to support all the weight only at the bottom of the door - not side hinges as most doors have.
The best move we ever made was to remove the doors. We don't need um.
