Edit and delete functions

Can you turn on edit and delete user function? I had Janet edit a post of mine because of a typo, but that seems like a lot of work that members would be willing to correct. Mods have more important work to do.
Thanks

I believe there may be something similar to a time delay on those features. I noticed that after the initial post the edit and delete functions are active but after a period of time they become inactive or go away.

Time or responses. I've noticed that you can't edit after some replies have been made--but that could also just be a time thing.

I noticed that also. But why put a timer on it?

I did a little checking and it appears that the culprit is the vBulletin software itself and that you can not delete a post after it has been viewed by others. The issue has discussions on a number of forums using vBulletin.

There are some good reasons for this.

1. If a post that is part of a larger discussion is removed the subsequent posts may no longer make sense. Those who took the time to respond may find that their post could be misinterpreted without the earlier one.
2. If the first post of a thread is deleted, it actually removes the entire thread (this is a software quirk).

About edits: You can edit your post for a period of time after it's made to fix typos or add extra thoughts but the edit window closes after a while. Again the reasons for this are related to those above.

1. A post that has been heavily edited after there are responses can be confusing.
2. Folks don't go back and reread threads to find updated info - it's best to simply post an update to a thread if there is a change.

We understand that sometimes it's important to make an edit after the fact or even remove content and if you ping a moderator they will be happy to help with this. While we rarely remove posts there are some instances where we might do this if requested and appropriate. Just send a Pm and discuss it with a moderator.
