Verify Your Forum Account Info - Site Updates Soon
In the coming weeks, we will be moving towards a simpler login using your email address (which is private) and password but first we want to make sure the address associated with your account is accurate.
Next week we will be prompting all forum members to verify their contact email as they login to the forum.
Many members have ancient e-mail addresses associated with their current accounts and so next week as you login we will ask you to affirm your email address is correct or to update it. If you need to update your email address please follow the prompts and then check your inbox for a confirmation email to your new address. If you are updating your e-mail address, there is a link in that email you will need to click to complete the process. You can then proceed as usual to login with your current user/pass information.
Once members have had time to verify existing addresses (or update them if needed) we will make the change to logging in with that address (a few weeks from now). We appreciate your patience as we go through this process.

Janet...why and how does this make for a simpler login? Seems like having email addresses as an "account name" would make our email addresses more at risk in event of a hack. Will our "online name" stay the same?

Your username (The Gritz Carlton) will still display publicly. Your e-mail address is not shown anywhere on the site and will be how you login. email/password rather than user/password. Currently your username (half the login info) is displayed for all
It will be a couple of weeks before we make this change however. The first step will be to have folks verify that the address on file in their accounts is accurate. we'll display this prompt in a few days.

Thanks for the heads-up on this!
What sort of timeframe will we have in which to comply?

I understand what you are asking, however, consider this trap, one which I fall into often.
Many sites use e-mail address to gain access along with a password. Ok, so we are moving along and some time later I forget my password. I then click on your "Forgot Password" and your automated site sends a password reset to my e-mail address. That's wonderful if you still have access to that account. When I change providers, they instantly shut down access to the e-mail account of record. So your automated response goes to never never land and there I sit unable to log in to your site.

That is why you get an e-mail address from an independent e-mail provider (gmail, yahoo, outlook.com, etc.) that won't disappear when you change ISP's.

Yes, I did that after the last round of e-mail provider changes. But also to note, some sites do not consider gmail, etc. a legitimate account.

AOL...I've had 3 email addresses with AOL for over 25 years. Using the email addresses with service providers locks you in to keeping their service just to keep the email address you've given to hundreds of people.

So far I've never seen this with gmail (considering its the most popular e-mail service on the internet).

Never had an issue with gmail either...anywhere. Google owns everything or has strings attached.

I once found a forum that didn't like Gmail, Hotmail, and a couple of others...
They're getting along just fine without me!

How much money are you being paid when selling our email address?
A email address is not making it simple

Requesting you use your email as a id is becoming more and more common on websites. Should not be an issue. My email provider lets us have up to 5 email address. For buying online I use my secondary email, only use my primary for friends and family.
