Road Trip Table

A new project I just finished; I added a drivers table for road trips. On my Miramar there is a hole on the floor just behind the doghouse for the oval table. Unfortunately the oval table is too large to have in place while driving, it's meant for when you are stopped and the chairs are turned inward.

While roaming the isles of camping world I found a mount for the pole that supports the oval table top. Next I went online and found a durable heavy duty tray table with 4 cup holders on the 4 corners. Using rough grit sand paper, I roughed up the bottom of the tray so I could apply an epoxy to the wood and the tray. Next I used a 1/4" piece of oak wood and marine grade G-Flex epoxy, I glued the oak to the bottom of the tray. Using 1/4" wood screws, I secured the metal table mount to the wood. I now have a small enough table tray to use while driving.

The tray table is ergonomic, as it is close enough and the right height so I'm not reaching down to the doghouse for drinks or snacks while driving.

Very nice!! Our Axis has very pathetic cup holders on the driver and passenger consoles, so this is going to be the fix.
Thanks

Brian,

Great modification. My Miramar has the same setup, I will have to look at getting the parts to make a similar travel table. The DW will enjoy filling it up with more crap!

Can you supply the link where you got the tray

I googled TRAY WITH CUP HOLDER and found that exact tray...and Webrestaurant site has that tray in various colors and several other trays with cup holders.

Sorry, I thought I pasted the link,

GET FT-20-BR 14" x 17" Brown Plastic Fast Food Tray with Cup Holders

I used a dremel tool to smooth down the 2 ridges on the bottom of the tray so the wood would (ha ha) lay flat.

I have a question...have you put this to practical use ?
I am looking at it...and seeing, for our Axis...to get out of the seat to get out of the RV or go to other areas of the motorhome, a person must remove it from its mount...which requires moving drink cups and other items on the tray.
Not convenient for us..
For an RV with side doors up front it would be a neat addition.

Yes, we have put it to practical use! On the Miramar, there is enough room between the driver and passenger seat. With the trays long axis along the longitudinal axis of the coach, there is enough room to get in and out of the seats.

I guess there is enough room and we are both still skinny enough to fit!

Hmmm. I wonder if I could wedge a tray like that between our mattresses in Axis 24.1?

I want a stable place for water bottle and glasses case per side at night.

We took out the bolsters, stacked 1 CPAP machine on coated wire kitchen organizer and put CPAP 2 under the shelf.

Less clutter for the dog to scrabble up on when he does his land shark approach in the night.
