2015 31E Chassis Radio Wiring

The chassis radio on my 31E is wired to the coach battery, as probably all of them are in the class c coaches. Why did Thor do this and is it hard to wire it to the chassis battery? I prefer it be turned off when the motor is not running.

Maybe someone has a link to a previous thread as I am sure this has been discussed before, I just couldn't find it.

hello!
Yes it has been discussed before..... once or twice fairly recently, but I don't have a link at the moment

The most recent that comes to mind was a discussion about adding a manual kill switch to the dash, and the need to kill both the power feed and the memory power feed.

If I boondocked more I would probably do that, but we're plugged in most nights and it hasn't proven to be a problem with a few overnight offgrid stays....

On my class C the radio in the dash also feeds the speakers about the sofa and dinette table. I can turn off the ignition and still have the radio work.

It would work better that way but unless you want to take the effort to rewire then you are stuck with it. The radio in the bedroom on mine plays in the bedroom and the outside speakers. I really didn't like that until I hooked my iPhone up to the bedroom radio via bluetooth. Now I can play music from my iPhone when we are sitting outside and can even control the volume. We seldom use the dash radio. Sometimes use the bedroom radio for the outside speakers via bluetooth from the iPhone so we are OK with the setup.

The reason:

So you can use the dash radio, and often times, the DVD player without having to have the ignition switch turned on and draining the chassis battery. It is not just Thor that does this. My prior coach was a Forest River Class C and it was wired the same way.

Is the DVD player in the dash radio connected to any of the TV's?

Depends on your setup. In my current coach the answer is no. In my prior C lass C the in dash DVD was the only DVD player in the coach and it was connected to a AV switch which controlled all three TVs.
