2017 axis 25.2 rear slide out bed

We have a 2017 axis 25.2 with a rear slide out. Is it possible to take out the bed and replace it with a sofa bed?

What's underneath your bed? If the fresh water tank is there, forget it? Call Thor customer service and ask them? Also ask to email you the construction drawings, ie structural, electrical, plumbing, while you're at it. You can learn a lot from them.

The fresh water tank is under the couch. As far as I can tell there is only the wood base of the fold up mattress. I’m asking if anyone else has tried this. The bed is uncomfortable as hell. We’ve tried a new mattress bit the sides are not supported by the base.

That rear slide on the 25.2 doesn't go to the floor. Therefore there is no place for the mechanical parts of a conventional recliner. It's the same problem with replacing the jackknife sofa since the water tank is beneath.

We solved the bed issue in our 25.2 with a 4 inch foam topped with a quilted cover. That meant that it wouldn't fold over, so we used a bungee to hold it from flopping down when the slide was retracted.

What if we took out the platform and replaced it with plywood so it still would slide in and out and the sofa couch would as well. All I see is a wooden platform and the undercarriage of the Rv which could be covered with plywood making it a flat platform instead of a built up one. Having a sofa bed would work much better and have more room.??

Let me get this straight. You are considering removing the drawers and the rear storage area and building a box to hold a sofa hide a bed? Are you planning to move the bottom rails and motors, too? Have you identified a comfortable sofa sleeper? Every one I've tried was miserable.

That's creative, but I think you would be ahead to just trade for a different floorplan that fits your needs. JMHO

We did what Mr. Sunshine did
We solved the bed issue in our 25.2 with a 4 inch foam topped with a quilted cover. That meant that it wouldn't fold over, so we used a bungee to hold it from flopping down when the slide was retracted.

Why isn't a self-inflating air mattress a consideration?

We got a MyPillow RV Queen topper for our AXIS 25.2 mattress. Much improvement! Not quite the "Sleep Number" from home, but very acceptable.

We have the same RV and I'm quite surprised you find it uncomfortable, we think ours gives us a good night's sleep compared to a sofa bed.... I think it would be be almost impossible to to change to a sofa bed there, you've drawers under the bed and the slide mechanism, maybe a change to a different layout would be easier....?
