2015 Challenger Cameras

Good day folks, We are wanting to move the 3 cameras from the stock radio monitor, which we just upgraded, to a separate monitor so we can see the review camera while driving.

So what I have done first replaced the stock radio. Then took the 3 camera inputs and moved those to the new separate monitor along with the 3 trigger wires.

The problem is the cameras are triggering but I am now not getting any video. So this is the first problem the second will be getting the review camera to be on without putting it in reverse.

Any ideas?

So you removed/bypassed the 3 camera multiplexer?

No I didn’t. Do I need to do that to have video on all the time?

No, if you had done nothing but moved the RCA video cable from the radio to the new monitor then the rear camera would be displayed all the time except when the turn signal was on, then you would see the appropriate side camera. But you said you "took the 3 camera inputs and moved those to the new separate monitor along with the 3 trigger wires." How did you move them without removing them from the camera multiplexer?

This is not my area of expertise. Ace knows what he’s talking about. With my unit, when I turn the hazard flashers on, the rear camera comes on. So somewhere there is a switch linked to the hazards that you might be able to tap into to get full time rear feed.

Oh I get what you are saying, no I took the 3 leads from the back of the of old radio and just plugged them into the new monitor. I'm thinking I need to take them from the multiplexer.

When I turn the turn signals on, the video does switch to the side cameras but there isn't any video so it is like the cameras don't have power.

Hope this helps.

I don't think we are on the same page. As a "new to you" coach you may not even be working with OEM equipment; or, Thor may have wired yours differently from the "standard".

What you normally find is a silver video multiplexer box under the removable panel on the dash in front of the steering wheel. This is where the cables to the 3 cameras are connected. It also has connections for 3 trigger wires (one for each camera) and a +12 VDC and ground inputs. It normally has a single trigger output wire which goes to the radio to trigger the camera on function (normally connected to the BU camera trigger input) and a video RCA cable into the radio. It may have an audio cable as well but that is not the norm.

So I'm not sure what "3 leads" you moved from the radio to the monitor.
What monitor do you have?
Maybe some pictures of what you have would help.

OK I think I might see a problem. The old radio (Jensen model JRV215N) has three, four prong leads coming off the back (PIX1) for Camera1-3.

So what I did was to get a 4 pin round connector adapter in order to connect the RV cameras to the new monitor. (PIX 2 & 3). This adapter also has a power and negative wire which I believe is needed to power the cameras which the old radio did though the 4 pin connector which came off the back of the radio.

I then spliced the trigger leads off the monitor into the trigger hardness. (PIX5) and this is working correcting. If PIX 6 you can see I have the read cameras triggered but no video.

My assumption is I need to power the cameras thru the positive and negative wires on the adapter I bought.

That did the trick. The cameras just needed a power source. I wired them into the cabin fans as we always have them on when driving and I get all 3 views until I hit a turn signal then I get just that camera. Thanks for the help.

OK, so you never had the multiplexer - your radio took care of that AND supplied the camera power. Glad you got it figured out.

Already doing it with separate cameras

I've been running 3 monitors for my cameras now for over a year and I live it while I travel. Works great on narrow roads when oncoming trucks roll by. I bought 3 monitors with the same din connectors and ran power from a source in the dash. It was so simple even a newbie could do it. I got the monitors off Amazon for about 20 bucks each.

Goodness, don’t you find all that rather distracting? Not sure I need that much information about what is behind me….!

I did same thing and like the results. Don’t have to look down and right to see images and don’t have to wait for switching to see side cameras.
Just mounted mine close together across center top of dash on a piece of angle.

Not distracting at all. Makes driving so easy. Really helpfull when passing because you can see when your past someone front the rear view camera. Believe me, you wont regret having all three.
