Here's data from test done by Motorhome Magazine. It shows a little under 10% gain in performance and a reduction in MPGs from 6.75 to 6.5.

If you go to the iRV2 forum and search 5Star Tune this has been discussed extensively, the warranty will not be voided.

If you have doubts about 5Star I can understand, you will hear plenty of negative comments on just about anything that is posted here. Everyone has their own opinion based on their experience, good or bad, whether they have actual experience or not, or what they have heard from uncle Louie’s third cousin twice removed. Do your own research and decide from there.

You can actually hold a conversation and listen to the radio. I rank the 5 Star right up there with the CHF, and safety t plus as a must do mod. Well worth the money. Also search and join the 5 Star group buy on IRV2, 5 Star is very active on that site and every few months they do a group buy for a great price. That’s how I got mine.
Search that site, couldn't find it...Please help...

Update sense I posted last week. I sent another (now 5 emails) and received a phone call. Told the gentleman the issues I was having and he sent another map. I haven't been able to install it yet as it was in the dealer with some warranty work being done. I should have it installed by Wed or Thurs. I will report back with what has changed.

What if anything does this do to the Ford warranty?

Been posted that it would void your engine warranty....guess ill just wait until my warranty runs out...seems to be a good performance enhancer for the v10

If you go to the iRV2 forum and search 5Star Tune this has been discussed extensively, the warranty will not be voided. Fyi...

Look at post # 25 and follow link...I see more post that say warranty would be voided than not...but to be on safe side personally I would get it in writting from a Ford Official that it would not void warranty before I would install on my RV...just my thoughts

Bought the SCT X4 flash w/ 5-Star tuning, and Banks intake for our 2016 Miramar.

It has been a nice, albeit nuanced improvement over the OEM 6-speed mapping.

On cruse control the OEM would quickly drop two gears on a slight hill. The 5-star will hold longer, drop one gear, then hold before dropping again if needed.

Downshifting in tow is a little more aggressive with the 5-star.

All in all, the 5-star enhances drivability. If you pay attention to what the engine/trans is doing, then it is worth the price IMO. If you are a casual driver, go for interior upgrades instead.

It's sounds like you're knocking the tuner, but in reading the article you sited it gives a very positive review stating..."We found that on steeper

mountain grades under heavy to full throttle, when it was necessary to
downshift, the program kept the rpm
at a point where the engine seemed
to deliver the best power, and that
also helped reduce noise.
In all cases, on the more
moderate (rolling) hills, the transmission downshifted later and upshifted
sooner, and we crested all the hills
at faster speeds. The seat-of-the-pants driving experience was better
on all portions of the test loop and
the engine didn’t sound like it was

going to blast out of its compartment
because of long periods of high-rpm

operation. As expected, the additional
horsepower and revised shifting programming affected mileage
somewhat, but the loss was minor and

worth the improvement in drivability.

The baseline fuel economy over flat highway with a few low hills resulted
in 6.75 mpg. After reprogramming the
computer, we recorded 6.50 mpg.
After running the series of road
tests in stock and tuned form, we drove

the motorhome to a chassis dynamometer to confirm horsepower and torque
gains. Unlike the huge gains usually
experienced when tuning diesel
engines, the Ford V-10 gasser picked
up decent gains with the best improvement at 3,200 rpm. At this engine speed, rear-wheel horsepower went from 162 stock to 204, for a delta of 42 hp. Torque
went from 251 lb-ft to 326 lb-ft, a gain
of 75 lb-ft, which is respectable for a
gas engine, especially the V-10. Those are pretty impressive gains for nothing more than tuning the computer.

The new ECM's logs the flashes..so a trained tech could see that a previous flash has taken place. Under warranty Ford would have to say that the "flash" was the cause of any damage before voiding warranty work....so then it would be a challenge between you and Ford motor company...

I beg to differ..... IF..... this is true, and I haven't confirmed this, than the tech's are not seeing it unless they dig deeper into the ECU. I had the engine light come on while I had the tune installed. Put the tune back to OEM stock and took the RV to Ford to see what the issue was. He said it didn't make sense that all faults were coming up and he would reset the engine light and see if it would do it again. I would think a red flag would have been shown with all the issues being displayed but the tech wasn't bothered about it. So if you had a warranty call back, set the tune back to stock OEM. I don't think it's going to be a problem. I had one on a GMC truck also and within 6,000 the a VVT part failed and the head and valve train came apart. It had a different company tune but the tech was unaware of anything going on with the ECU. Which is what was controlling the VVT in this case. In any case if you have reservations about installing a tune vs warranty, don't install it. If I remember right, the warranty is only a year???

I agree: it's time for a "discreet inquiry...".
Let us know what he says.

Okay so I talk to my friend that is a service manager for Ford here in California and he said just set it back to the original OEM and no one's going to notice. But he did say that if you went in with it installed, they could say that it voided the warranty.
