I run a 15a with a heavy duty extension cord at storage for batteries.

When we bring it home to load up i used to do the extension cord 15a but it was always uncomfortable with the Florida heat not running the AC. I had an electrician install a 50a a foot from the breaker box and 3' from the door. I did get a 50a extension to help reach. DW now helps a bit more.

So just a little update: Went out to the coach to check some stuff out and nothing came on -no lights, no power, nothing.

Now ... the RV hasn't been connected to any power source for the last 10 days or so for a variety of reasons... so I cranked her up and waited a few minutes and then lights and various functions started coming on.

A friend suggested hooking up to 110 outlet to charge house batteries. I did that and just before we closed up the coach, the fridge came on and the main living area AC came on.

Came back from dinner and the breaker in the house main panel had tripped...

I'm so confused ... all I want to do right now is ensure that the house batteries stay charged until I can get a 30amp or 50amp service set up.

Turn off your fridge and A/C.

If you are on a 15 amp service, the A/C might cause the breaker to trip. Running both the A/C and fridge probably will.

Yup, Charge batteries and mebbe the fridge on a 15a circuit.
The A/C's draw way too many amperes on initial startup(s) for a 110v/15amp circuit.

The difference in cost from a 30a to a RV 50a is minimal.

I totally agree to go with the same pedestal! If you upgrade later you're good to go. Also with the triple plug you could use your rv as a guest room if needed.

When we get to Washington state we will be taking a cruise. When we put the RV in storage that week, they do have a 20A hookup. I'm assuming that should be enough to keep the batteries topped off and a residential fridge cold?

I installed a 30 amp service for a Travel Trailer that I had and now use for my Class A 50 AMP. 30 Amp is plenty for setting by the house. Ordered Gray box with GFCI setup just like at RV park.

yes, even 15amps is plenty because A) your fridge doesn't run 24/7, and you can turn it 'down' while away because you won't be opening the door during that time B)your battery charger will only be 'trickle' charging the batteries, since almost nothing will be used by the inverter, if you leave it on anyway. The fridge will have 120v power even without the inverter if you are on shore power.

I installed a 50 amp service at home. It really is pretty simple. Lowe’s sold a kit plug and box with instructions. Depending on how far you need to run the wire will depend on the size. And if your wife sends you to the dog house ( MH) air conditioning and tv are pretty nice amenities.

Too little difference in cost--put in 50/30/20 service.
As mentioned above, someone may need to use it during a visit in hot/humid temps, and both ACs will be a big plus.

Agree here. Go 50A and be done with it. I had 50A and 30A box installed years before we even though about owning a motorhome. A friend was coming to visit with his motorhome so I had the connection's put in for his comfort not know what he needed. NOW, I'm happy I did since we have a MH as well. Ours req's 30A so for storage it's as good at home as in a park someplace. Install 50A/30A and be happy.

We have friends in Michigan and every home in their lake neighborhood has a 30/50A RV service plug just outside the garage or near the outbuilding. the builder did it as standard. He also included a sewer pipe that goes into the home sewers system. Great place to hook up when we go visit them...and stay for a couple months!!

And at the opposite end of the spectrum we have entire counties in Florida that have passed statues prohibiting parking of RVs in residential areas on lots that are less than 1 acre in size. Pasco county: we're looking at you!!

You are allowed to have it parked to load/unload for up to 72 hours, but you are not allowed to connect it to any services while there (like electricity for the fridge or air conditioning).

When I first bought an RV I plugged it into a standard 15 amp 110 volt outlet to keep the batteries charged. I did this for over 15 years until we had to live in the RV because of a major home remodel. At that point, I put in a 30 amp service because that is what the current RV needed. Now we have a 50 amp coach and plug it in the 30 amp with a Camco adapter. It works fine, but I am thinking of updating the service. If I was you, I would just put in a 50 amp service.
